Actually used this stuff last year in my basement on some sweating pipes. This brand I found at Menard's I like more as it has the rubber flange with sticky on it and others didn't have the flange at all.

I went to my local auto parts store. A small independent place, the had availability on some peel and stick automotive stuff at 7/8 tall and is black edm foam. It should fit the bill. I ordered a roll. I'll let you know when it comes in.

That sounds like the ticket to ease the eyesore.

After sitting in miles of traffic, on Woodward, literally taking 15 minutes a mile in 70* temp. The mod was working great! 85* was the highest IAT1 reached and would drop instantly with some throttle.

Be sure to get the upgraded stripping. The D style sounds best route.

Lol, I don't know of any vendor that would have done all this testing on a product. And if it has Crash's endorsement now you know it's gotta work.

I think I can get my hands on a heat reflective paint that works on plastics. I'm going to approach Airaid to see if they will part with a unit for some additional testing. I would rather have a back up "just in case". We will see what the have to say.

That's a good idea there. That paint sounds like it could help on the rest of the intake tubing also.

This stuff looks promising, if it's good enough for F1 applications should be good enough for our EBs. I wonder if coating the cold pipes before the turbos would have any impact on performance?

At a point do you worry about actually making the air warmer by insulating these pipes?

Wonder if it would be beneficial to do a ram air type deal in bottom grille that directs air up towards these pipes?

That can be a real problem, again something I noticed with the K&N. When I insulated the outside of the tube it was better until heat soak set in when the car was idle or after being shut off. The aluminum pipe took forever to recover. Something like this I would rather test on another unit. Like I said above. However my tests on the K&N were done with the unit drawing in hot air from the engine as there was no other choice. It is possible that the Airaid with it's fresh air source could overcome this. The other option would be to design a heat shield not directly attached to the pipe after the filter box. The transmission reaches temps of 90C after a few runs at the track.
