Ford called and said new pcm isnt responding either. Any clues????? Ive about had it
What exactly does that mean?

No power?

Power but no communication?

They just said its not communicating. So i said "then it must not be the pcm, so once u figure out the problem put my old pcm back as im not paying for the new one." They didnt like that too much but im not paying for something that wasnt the problem.

So i guess my next question is do i have to pay that $1500 for diag and r and r of pcm if that wasnt even the damn problem? And should i have to continue to pay $137 an hour for further diagnostic when i thought they already did all that!??

I think Z had some good advice as well.  Between the security system, PATS, and the wireless communication necessary between the key fob and ECU something could be a miss.  Lots of communication has to work in order to make the car go.

I would not pay for a PCM if it's not the problem.  As for the labor portion, you're kind of stuck on that, but the dealer needs to work with you since it's sounding like a mis-diagnosis.

Good luck!!!

This is coming from a master certified Ford advisor...

It depends...

There's still a lot of unknowns...And they don't yet know the underlying condition.

A few things that could be going on...

The DLC power fuse...She said make sure they check this as it is the most common and least expensive issue.

They are missing something simple like the fuse and relay for the PCM

There is some wiring cooked due to the OBD scanner...

The scanner pulled a pin(s) out of your diag port...

The PCM backfed into the other modules and took out everything, the instrument cluster, BCM, and PCM.

Now before you panic she also said the last option is very rare as these systems are typically very good at self protection.

Bottom line though, if your PCM is good, then no you should not have to pay for it as they did not exercise due diligence and get you a proper diagnosis. They should eat the first diag fee and just start you over and charge you based on actually finding the problem.

Def worth checking the IPC and PATs/security fuses.  BTW, link to where this all started

The only other time I have heard of the mileage data being "erased" is when an ODO DATA ERROR message crops up from a TSS/OSS sensor error.

Not quite what is going on here, but may help:

keys and pats could still work even with a fried pcm. flex/mkt have a radio security computer installed above/behind the glove box it has five or six plugs  with yellow security levers they come from supplier with corresponding keys rubber banded to them. just glancing over this thread it sounds like that's what fried, or has limited function . your locks and security are between that box and the BCM. i'd be looking into RFA (radio frequency something) or communication between the rfa and bcm or the fuse. I'd link a schematic but they wont load on my personal computer. to program a new rfa with IDS takes like 20 minutes just for the computer to gain security access other than that the car is basically a brick.

Maybe should have mementioned this but im redoing the headliner. Could this have something to do with it?  I mean if it does its not like ford cant clearly see the headliner is missing. And also this didnt happen until around 4 days after i removed the HL.

FYI that should of been mentioned on your first post and NOT left for last ....Jesus. BTW any other additional mods you have to add on besides the boost gauges and when did you install them now?  Z

Well honestly i dont know why that would be considering its just a headliner. I highly doubt theres a security feature in my roof and like i said, im also sure ford would have looked into that CLEARLY seeing theres no headliner. Also, i drove for days like that with no problems and when i plugged my scanner in, bam. So i wasnt thinking about the roof at the time.

So instead of a comment like that, maybe you could be helpful like you were doing earlier in the post and explain how this could affect the problem im having. Also, i drove for days like that with no probtims and when i plugged my scanner in, bam. So i wasnt thinking about the roof at the time.
Possibility of frayed wires upon removal of components in conjunction with extra heat generated by no headliner....IDK and just to many variables to consider at this juncture.   Z

With computers, you can watch them boot up step by step, to see where it actually fails.  I am sure IDS has a similar way of capturing the startup process for the Flex.  Do you know if they checked all the fuses and relays?

As for the headliner, if you still have it out, check all the wiring to make sure it's not stressed, as it can pull connectors loose or pull pins out of the connectors or other weird stuff.  Not having the headliner in may also create hotspots in the car (not the wifi kind) that could stress the wiring also.  Thinking out loud.

I honestly dont know what they've checked. I have no clue what the ford techs are doing at this point. I feel like they are standing there guessing. As far as stressed wires, i was very careful while removing HL and would assume that if i created a problem it would have happened then. It has to be something to do with plugging in that scanner. Thats whats caused all this. I cant wait to see what the actual problem is. Hopefully ill know tomorrow. This is crazy.
