I am new to this forum, I heard about it at SHOForum.  I have a 2014 Ford SHO, non-PP, Ruby Red with all other options.  I am thinking about running my car in a wide open highway race (Silver State Classic Challenge) next year and while I don't want to go 160 mph I would like to try to hit 135+ mph if possible in some of the long straightaways.  I have seen two professional reviews on the governed top speed for the SHO, Motor Trend on a 2010 SHO and Car and Driver on a 2013 SHO (PP).  Motor Trend has the limiter at 131 mph and Car and Driver has the limiter at 141 mph.  Does anyone know if the 2013 and newer has a higher governor speed?  Is there a difference between the PP and non-PP cars regarding the governor?  Does anyone have a trap speed for a 2013+ SHO without a tune?  The answer won't affect my decision, I think I will enter the event either way, but I would like to know what to expect and leave myself some room before the governor.  I think it would affect my time if it were to hit the governor, but I am not sure about that either.  I also posted this question over on SHOForums.  Thank you to everyone who responds for your thoughts!

Welcome to the forum!

That said.... I can tell you that before tuning my '13 SHO speedo indicated mid 130's ... And after tuning will bury the needle below the 140 max reading. The tuning eliminated the speed limiter function.

I would suggest you try to rent a little track time to see what your car does before the race as every car has it's own "personality" and absolutes often vary especially at extremes of performance.  There are other considerations at these speeds like lift, tires/lateral Gs, etc.... and I'd recommend being pretty familiar with how the car acts before getting on the track with others, plus the practice will make you better!

Best of luck in your road race!

Most folks work on pure acceleration for the strip, so your performance and experiences will be interesting to follow.

How long is the silver state run.  That would be a fun time.  Are you planning on it for fun or gonna try to be competitive. Are you gonna have a copilot keeping time or anything? What class will you be running House

Panther427,

I will enter the Touring class, because that is required for rookies along with racing driving school on Las Vegas Motor Speedway.  The Silver State Classic is about 90 miles of blocked of highway and you are running alone, as each car is staged in increments, unless you catch someone else.  I may have my son as a navigator just for fun and some pictures at speed, but they keep your elapsed time and trap speeds.

Sounds like fun! I too would be interested on how far the SHO can be pushed. He'll I have seen a 70 challenger do 200mph. Be safe and good luck!

If the limiters are different between the two id believe it has more to do with PP vs nonPP than years.
The nonPP has V-rated rubber for a 149mph limit and PP gets the highend GY-F1s.
Im sure Ford wants some percent safety margin hence the limit below 140.

I thought they were all limited to 220kph. That's about 138mph.
Haikus are easy
But sometimes they don't make sense

Sorry to revive this but did anyone ever find out what the limiter is for sure? I used the engineering test mode and my gauge only went to about 135 at most during the analog test and I am wondering if this is due to the limiter.

If it's your first time at SSC you'll be limited to a (touring division 110mph) 124 tech speed.  So no worries about the limiter, go any faster than 124 and you'll be DQ'd.
