Cold start rattle - timing chain / phasers

How many have had this cold start rattle? I see that all 3.5 ecoboost engines are affected by this (goes all the way through 2015) and curious what you owners here are seeing. The TSB for this shows new timing chains and phasers... and the original phasers were the root cause of the timing chain stretch.

I think most of the people affected are the ones that have holes drilled in their intercoolers

That is completely incorrect there's a known issue on the trucks with the timing chains.

The issue is not as prominent on the transverse engine, but timing chain stretch has happened from time to time.  Run the right filter and oil viscosity to prolong phaser life.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

There have also been some intermittent issues reported by members with this related to oil viscosity and some with tensioner malfunction. No problems for me so far. I also wonder if the injectors could be making the noise based on reading about GDI.

Mine has done this since it was 2 yrs old. Getting worse with time. I'll take it to the dealer sometime before my extended warranty is up.

Just curious, what kind and weight of oil are you running?
I've tried 5W-30 and 5W-20, synthetic and synthetic blend. No difference.
First 60k miles, changes were done at the dealer with blend.

Mine does It too, no particular time or situation.  I have run 5w30, 5w20, and 10w30.  Royal purple tends to do it less. I'll try amsoil next I guess.
If ur not first, ur last.......mods: BOV VTA conversion,93 Octane 3 bar tune from Unleashed Tuning,  blue LEDs inside, white outside. 2 JBL GTI Mkii 12" subs, Planet Audio BB2400.1, Big 3, kinetic 1200 deep cycle batt.
