I thought it was odd they included those tables.....

Don't tune your car!

But if you do and happen to have some race type gas laying around, here's a built in map of how to make the most power that we've already tested for you, lol...

Question:  Are you guys who mix in some E85 actually testing the fuel to see what the percentage of ethanol really is?  There is a sticker on the pumps in my area that say it could be anything over 51% ethanol.   If it is only 51%, the octane would obviously be less than if it were 85%.  On the other hand, more could be added without potential fuel pressure issues.   These variables are why I don't mix it, even though I cannot argue with the track results I have seen from those who do.  Thoughts?

SHOnUup

Exactly why I mix a little and not tune for it.

I am sure the amount you add is safe or you would have blown it up a long time ago.     Whether 51% or 85%, a gallon and a half to a tank of 93 seems fine.  I would just like to know what I am getting so I could duplicate what works best.

So I appreciate the comments here about why "its stupid to do" and "why you're doing it to reduce knock" etc etc etc.... I get it.

The question of what the popping noise is, still has yet to be explored.

I have seen quite of few of these mufflers not properly aligned and sometimes being so close to the bumper can lead to water entering the pipes, also as mentioned above a heavy windy rainfall can enter inside.if car is left outdoors.  Z

When we're looking at such a low blend, I wouldn't worry about the variables as the adaptives will fix it if you're off a bit. My station uses that sticker as well but when I pulled the MSDS they are 70/85 depending on the season. I have never had an unexpected result so I'm pretty sure my station gets theirs from a reputable source. The quality and consistency of E85 has gotten much better over the years when looking at nationwide tests. The last test of 139 stations across the country yielded 3 tat were out of spec and that wasn't alcohol %, it was RVP which really isn't an issue when blending with straight 93. At that level I'm not at all concerned about FRP. I'm still seeing peaks over 2700 PSI on E20.

If you watch your fuel trims you can get close. If you were to go to E20 you'd be looking at around 3% higher.

I'm on a 20% tune right now which Torrie adjusts stoich accordingly. All of my trims are around zero so my blend is very close. If I put more than 20 in the stft and ltft will climb accordingly until the LTFT's are dialed in then the STFT will fall back to zero. Put in less and the same thing will happen in the other direction.

Since you aren't tuned all you will be doing is to help ensure you are getting max performance from your tune under more conditions than straight 93.

Well gentlemen, I just realized a very important item about my SHO. These cars are not e85 rated. Man do I feel like an IDIOT for not knowing this. I saw e0-e15 in on the gas cap and I just assumed it was a sub-rating of e85. Last night it clicked with me due to ajpturbo's responses on how stupid it was for us to be doing this. the e0-e15 rating is the tolerance of the car for ethanol in the standard/regular/premium gas.

So I'll just feel like an idiot for the rest of the day. lol SMH.

I believe the 13+SHO is labeled for E-15 as you mentioned.  Z

E15 is still E15 if you are using straight gas blended with E85 to get to E15.

The original twinforce (ecoboost) was flex fuel rated and all of our DI components are Bosch and they are all E-85 rated.

The problem is as you crank the power up with E85 FRP falls off as the blend (fuel requirement) increases. We don't have enough HPFP/injector to run straight E with  a tune.

This is not an issue with low blends

That and the political winds changing in regards to E-85 plus the certification costs seem to be the reason Ford removed the rating when the Ecoboost was officially released. .

Please read my response to AJP and his to me, it explains this further.

I bet u could run e85 at 12-15 psi in the top end where the hpfp is flowing well no problem  but i never tried but the fuel system would be heavily taxed..thats why ford wouldnt recommend it...

IIRC the original twinforce was rated at 415/425 tq/hp on E85.

You can bet there were some low spots and no headroom left which I assume was a large part of the decision.  They knew everyone and their brother would be tuning these things. I just don't know why they didn't figure this all out before the Twinforce media blitz.

Once I'm mobile again I may drain the tank to almost empty, put 3 gallons of E85 in and get a log. Just for funsies. I've done it before, just never logged it.
