Push anywhere on the keypad; doors will unlock.

If the car is locked with the fob in the car, you cannot just touch the keypad and unlock it.  You have to enter the code.  At least that is the way a 2010 MKS works.   There is a huge difference between a fob in your pocket and a fob in the locked car.   I cannot imagine that has changed.  If it has, it would be a change for the worse.

That is with the FOB in your pocket, geswek implied that if the fob was IN the car you could get in without using the keypad (I may have misunderstood his post).

I leave my fob IN the car and lock with key pad (two finger touch) and unlock with the code. That way I don't have to hassle with keys (hate them in my pocket, especially in summer).

Exactly, Vernonator.  The system has sensors that know if the key is outside the car or inside.  Many people leave their fobs in their cars and use the same method that you do.  Unless someone else has access to your code or a Big Freaking Hammer, they will not get in.  Even if they break in, I don't think the car will start.

When I first got my SHO, I was having trouble being consistent with the two finger key press to lock. A suggestion from helpful forum member who shared his secret which is to use a thumb press between the two bottom numbers. Like magic that trick has worked for me very well.
I have at times not been able to get the lock to engage, When that happens,  I have found that all I have to do is an unlock swipe to reset things then follow with the magic thumb press. BTW key fob in the pocket!

Normal. The ESport does it, and my wife's old Edge did it as well. I'm assuming the fob is in your pocket when this is happening....

I evidently misunderstood this and thought that if the fob was in the car, just touching the keypad would allow entry. Thank you for clarifying on this feature!

Ah that's what I thought, but I guess I've never not had a fob in my pocket.

What's the procedure for unlocking when you've left the fob in the car and it's battery has gone south along with the fact that you are nowhere's near your spare fob? BFH?

That depends, is your car battery dead too? Do you know your entry code? At that point you'd be looking at lockout service and a battery boost, haha.

Car battery dead... it would have to REALLY be dead... can't find that in the manual.   All other situations ---> Enter your code (or the factory code which will always work)... The keypad doesn't require the fob present in order to function.... you can also do some other pretty neat things id you want... one door, all doors, trunk, etc., and up to 2 different drivers can have their own separate codes.

If the battery in the fob is dead and the battery in car is dead and my cell phone is dead, I would use the BFH to beat myself on my head.

Seriously, the keypad operates from the car battery and use of the fob operates from the fob battery.  You can still start the car with a dead fob by putting it in the appropriate slot so assuming the car battery is not dead, you could drive to Walgreens or Batteries Plus and buy a new fob battery.   

Hmmm    I seem to remember that I couldn't lock the car when the fob was in the car, it kept unlocking..but maybe it was because the car was still running...I know that with My F-150 you could lock the doors with the engine running...don't ask why I know this because it's a long story and makes me look really stupid!
