Keypad on the car

I was washing my car yesterday and noticed that if I spray the keypad, the numbers light up, is this normal? Or do I possibly have a short or some other problem in there? This whole side of my car has been taken off for a repaint after a minor accident, which is why I am suspicious.

Another question, I don't have the code to it (bought used), where can I find it? Do I have to have the dealer tell me?

Yea... normal... You'll likely also notice the parking lights come on briefly

I have noticed mine go on at the end of a car wash. I see it in the mirrors. Only happens once in a while.

On my 97 sho it was deep up underneath the drivers side dash. It was upside down and reversed so it was not easily readable.
Not sure if the new ones are the same.
I bought mine used also,there was a
card in the one of owners manual booklet pockets with the code on it.

Code should be in the owners manual on a plastic card

I believe you can reset if you are in the car I know I did on mine. The dealer set it and then did not tell me what it was (I later found a scrap of paper in the owners manual the he wrote it on). The manual tells you how to do it - fairly easy.

I thought the factory code was always usable and stayed the same even though you could enter your own code?

Thanks for the response guys! I'll take a look at my manual as far as the code. Even though it's very hard to get locked out of a SHO, I'd still like to have the code.

My dad freaked out the other day when I slammed my door shut with the car still running: "Always take your keys with you!" Yea.... I have them. :D They never leave my pocket.

I really like the fact that you don't need the code, but just running your finger down the keypad with the fob in your pocket will unlock the car.  That way no one can get the code from you.

Well you learn something new every day - did not know you could do that. I leave my keys in the car and use the pad for entry and locking. May have to try that out.

Thanks!!!!

Do not leave your keys in the car, LOL.

My mum had a limited and she has things stolen. When she told me the keys were in it, I went out and showed her how to get in car without a code. She was embarrassed.

Sent from my mobile, I think.

Haha Yes, it's a feature that they should really REALLY make known to you, for a while after buying the car I had the spare in the cup holder, until I accidentally figured this feature out. Now that I know about it though, I love it. For those of you that don't know this trick:

To lock the car when leaving use two fingers to hold the last two buttons on the keypad, the car will lock.

I also set the code on the car with a number that I can remember, that way I don't have to remember a bunch of different numbers, because we also have a digit keypad lock on our front door....
