Might finally be time to worry about the transmission

The car started having issues shifting into 2nd occasionally tonight. I was doing some road tuning and every once in awhile the shift from 1st to 2nd would appear to go through then the car would slip out of 2nd and hit the rev limiter.
Anybody ran into this before?
I've contacted Level 10 to see if they'll make me a tranny rebuild kit, I'm sure myself and others will need it soon with the new ATP turbos. :)

Makes me think twice about desiring to tune as aggressively as you have honestly.

Me thinks if I can get in the low 500whp range, that I should leave it at that and be happy with it.

Pushing past 600whp like you have, may not be the best course of action, but hey, idk, guess we'll see when the time comes.

Probably a good time to get your sensors checked out too.  Always issues with the TSS/OSS, and maybe the valve body too in this instance.  Your logging not give you any insight?  Could the ECU be protecting the vehicle by "disconnecting" the trans, instead of just cutting the throttle?

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

To many burnouts haha,  if it is going out do you think some of your testing trials for the tuning process ( mainly adjusting shift points.  When you had said it didn't like shifting at peak torque) may have caused Its early demise.

I've actually experienced this myself. It doesn't seem to be consistent either. It's happened to me maybe once under WOT, but usually it'll happen under normal driving conditions.

I ran into this while running the 91 tune. I could reproduce the issue by getting the car upset (romping on it mid turn on a "bumpy" road surface all while having traction control enabled. Livernois said it was probably the ECU going nuts and trying to stabilize the car.

One time back about 30K range I had this happen under WOT, but not sure if I was in 2nd or 3rd.  More likely 2nd. Hit rev limiter and wouldn't shut down, so I had to turn ignition off.  Never happened again.  I thought it was an ECM issue.  That's when I had the #6 spark plug insulator come loose.  Original stock plugs.   Scary.   At the time this happened, I was in the 360 hp & 410 tq range which is where I topped out back in early 2012.

I have my fingers crossed that this was a one time only event. The thought of laying down the cash for upgrading turbos and then upgrading the transmission would present a little sticker shock.
I think we should start a slush fund on Paypal anyway for 4DRHTRD since he is the one pushing the envelope and progressing these vehicles for the benefit of all on his own dime.

Just FYI BPD I'm at 15PSI which is around 500HP/510TQ when we dyno'd my car. I'm tuning there and then upping it until I hit overboost conditions in the ECU again. It happened to me 4 or 5 times to me last night only in first to second gear shifts. I'll take some logs tonight for Torrie to see what he says.
I shot an email to Level Ten to see if they'll work with me to create a rebuild kit for our trannies. I also found a few used trannys for under $1K in case I need it. :)

Just buy some parts of my company when you need it and I'll be happy, this way you're getting something for you and I make a couple of bucks here and there.
If there are any parts I'm missing let me know and I'll try and become a dealer for them.

This reinforces my plans of just trying to make enough power to run an 11.9.

Don't want to put anymore money into this this after the turbo project. I need to start recouping for my next car down payment.  :)

Be awesome if they could make a double clutch tranny for it! :D

Talked to Level Ten, he doesn't think it's the tranny, thinks it's in the tune otherwise it wouldn't shift to 2nd ever so that's good news.
I'll try an older revision tune and see if I can get it to repeat the issue.

Somewhere I know I have seen a Ford memo about the transmission doing something like that, but I think I remember it pointing to a 4th gear issue.  Mine has done it on at least one occasion I can think of...

Sadly it is the wife's car, so I can't go too crazy on it...just a simple tune for now.

I was thinking the same thing,  relative to my one experience...  I explained what happened and after the next version of Torrie tuning, it never happened again.    Torrie should be able to tune the tranny to compensate.
