AC compressor going???

so, i'm hearing some droning noises in the cabin sometimes when the AC is running.  its not loud but noticeable if the radio is off and the air flow is low.

dealer said replacing the compressor would be $1400 overall, ouch!

any quick fixes that might hold off the AC going completely kaput?

Pulled codes?  From the PCM and HVAC module?  Anyway, a compressor from a dealer online sets you back $400 vs $700 MSRP.  The work is not complicated at all, and any competent HVAC mechanic can do it for you.  So I'd think the final tally should be closer to 1/2 what the dealer is charging.

Now if additional components have be installed, the cost of parts could rise some.

i'll wont do anything if and until it stops working completely.  a little noise isn't a big enough deal for now.

maybe its worth getting an extended warranty, of course mine just ended this January...
