Off the subject, kind off, but I'm curious why people don't prefer using oiled filters like drop in k&n?

I think because the oil from the filter can hurt the turbo.

Personal choice, really, there is debate over whether the oil from the filters will foul the downstream sensors.

I see. I don't know, I had these filters in many of my cars and never had an issue with an 02 sensors. The turbos though, I can't comment on that one. But, there shouldn't be that much oil on them to the point where it drips and enters through the engine I would think.

I've been running an oiled drop in K&N and never had an issue.

The main issue is when you clean the air filters,you have to take precaution not to over oil the filter,just use sparingly.

Along with what ZSHO said about over oiling, the main reason people seem to be afraid of oiled filters for is that excess oil can find its way onto the MAP/MAF sensor on their cars. Those air sensors are very, very delicate and you could see the most erratic behavior develop (even with shifting of the transmission) with a dirty sensor.

Keyword though is "excess" oil, therefore if you know how to oil a filter properly you should have no problems. I actually prefer a lightly oiled filter over a dry filter since it traps more dirt, it is just more maintenance whereas a dry filter you would toss out and replace at XXX miles.

Yes, yes and yes. MAF cleaner on the MAP sensors is great maintenance and easily done.

Could this be a factor in my mystery random tranny hiccup....that would be too easy!  Gotta try it.

Yep, literally takes a second to pop it out and spray it a couple times, will improve how smoothly the car runs/shifts and can improve gas mileage. I'd clean them every oil change, one can should last you a year. Here is what I've been using for years which is widely available from any local store:



Could definitely clear up some minor gremlins, I'd bet to wager you'll see some dirt on your sensor if you pop it out!

I always recommend this product,the old saying is you never get a fix coming from a can,but this product is an exception,used it on both of my map sensors and iat,like Rich mentioned does miracles and safe and leaves no residue,wish the can backed up the statement 10-15hp increase,lol

Larry been using this can for years,the sensors are very fragile and when spraying the sensor with the straw attached,never get to close cause the straw can damage it,also for real dirty sensors  you could spray some on a cotton swap and rub gently and then spray again.

When I changed out out my 3 bar sensor back to 2 bar recently it was covered with oil.
