lets not get caught up in the mechanical pedigree game!

if a simpler system works 90-95% as well in 95-99% of situations at 65-70% the cost/complexity; i don't see a problem.

that posted review seems very suspect to me.  i've never experienced any torque steer with my MKS-EB...

I am in northwest Pennsylvania and we get a lot of snow. I work a swing shift and the road I travel does not get a lot of winter maintenance at night because there are no houses on the road for the last 4 miles of my trip to work. I am on the stock Goodyear A/S radials and while I am not a fan of the tire it does a good job with the AWD of the SHO. Now when I get some new rims I will put some Blizzacks on these rims for winter driving and I am sure they will do sooooo much better paired with the SHO.

I guess I am saying I am impressed with how well the SHO handles in the deep snow, I have been pushing snow with the bumper and had no issues getting through it. I never once felt like the car would not make it where I wanted it to go. Also when the wind is blowing hard it is nice to have 4400 lbs of car setting low to ground to combat the wind.

I have never driven a Subaru or Audi in the snow.  However, I have had plenty of experience with 4x4 Rangers and F150s.  While the SHO/MKS system may have some shortcomings in some areas, I think they are surprisingly good in slippery conditions.  If not for the lack of ground clearance, I think my MKS would go anywhere my 4X4 Ranger will go.  I have Goodyear Assurance tires on the MKS and Goodyear Fortera's on the Ranger.  Neither are dedicated snow tires.

As for torque steer, when stock, I really couldn't feel any except when turning sharply and accelerating hard at the same time.  With the tune, I definitely get some torque steer even accelerating in a straight line.  It isn't horrible but it is noticeable.  It reminds me that there is some power under the hood so I sort of enjoy it!

TSS

Torque steer is a non issue for me as well with the tune.  It is ever so slight.  Anything compared to the 2009 FWD V8 Impala SS I had is a treat.     If I wanted that car to turn right, I just hit the gas.

I'm about to get 9 to 14 inches. It's already coming down hard on us. Looking forward to more driving to see how she runs.

Sent from my mobile, I think.

The SHO does really well in the slippery stuff, and this is with 40% tread remaining on my fronts (Michelin Primacy's)

I have owned several AWD/4WD vehicles out here in Colorado, and I can say the SHO is among the best.

Awards for the best go to my 2009 WRX with snow tires. Subaru's AWD is stellar, and with snow tires, the little WRX was a total beast.

Second best: 2010 Xterra Off-Road with Hankook Dynapro AT-M's. WRX wins in confidence in up to 8 inches of snow, for anything more... nothing will stop the Xterra. I can plow through 2 feet of snow in the Xterra.

The SHO however is very predictable in the snow, and you can feel the rears kicking in to bail you out. With new tires all around, the SHO will be right up there in the top 5.

We got another 2 inches last night and have a huge storm coming next week.

So far we are somewhere around 37" inches total this season versus 2.5" last season.

I love it, but damn I'm starting to really miss Texas and looking forward to moving back in August.

Austin, the only Texas. :P

I'm actually from Germany but I call Texas home. My father is German and my mother is American (from Corpus Christi). She apparently lived the "fall in love while backpacking in Europe" cliche.
