Which unleashed tune will give the best mileage

I have the following tunes with the Boost loaded at the moment.  I upgraded the spark plugs to the recommended ones gapped at .030 , added that 170 t stat from Germany or wherever it's from and I have the 3 bar installed.  I will be taking a trip to Orlando in the next couple weeks 2800 miles round trip and I was wondering which of the three tunes listed would give me the best mileage or should I throw the 2 bar sensor back on and put the original tune on for the trip?

Any tune in general should provide an increase in mpg.  I probably wouldn't put the 2 bar and stock tune in for a trip like that.  I have Unleashed tunes as well on both the SHO and F150...I just leave the performance (93) 3 bar tune it and drive it.  Did that with both car and truck on trips to Charleston, SC.

Why not use this as an opportunity to test this out and find out for yourself?  Leave the 93P w/ 3 bar in it for the trip one way and then load up a different one or stock tune for the trip back.

I would be concerned about finding 93 octane fuel each time I needed it on a trip like that.  That is why I keep a 91 version in my tuner.   Maybe 93 is more readily available in the south than it is where I live?

r1crusher

That's true, Bruce but I don't think it'll be a problem for him.

I live in OH, have traveled up and down the east coast and never had a problem finding 93 octane fuel.  That being said since he's using an SCT tuner he could store quite a few tunes as you suggested just in case.  I keep my tuner in the car/truck for the simple fact that if either has to go in for something unexpectedly I can flash back to stock...just like what happened on Tue. to the SHO and it wouldn't start. :(

Honestly, I run the 93 boost tune.  I have a flex but get better gas mileage than I did when stock. I am heavy footed a bit and average 18-19 in town and my last trip from Iowa to Mississippi I averaged 25.4mpg.  That was on winter blend as well. And if your just going on a trip I don't think being stuck with 91 here n there is gonna hurt you at all. If say different if you were "Gumball-ing" it there. Haha.  I don't worry about it myself but I have meth that would make up the octane if needed. I'd imagine the SHO would do even better since its lighter and more arrowdynamic. Defiantly leave the three bar.  You will have your tuner with ya so you can change it wherever too. So you could try and see if there's a difference in milage between the tunes.

better mpg is not a guarantee. I have his tunes. at best, I get 22-23 mpg. when I was stock, I was between 25-27 hwy. it's give and take. I like having more power. I do drive a lot. I've put just about 30k miles on her since I bought her in july 2015, and high mpg would be nice, but not required, or I wouldn't have bought this car.

Thanks for the posts guys.

I have a 2011 Lincoln MKS ecoboost btw.   I don't have a 91 tune but I'm driving down from NH.  I don't t hink I'll have a hard time finding 93 either.  Also, thanks for the suggestion of keeping the programmer in the car.  I always kept it in my drawer at home but I guess it does no good there.  I just kept it there incase of a break in and someone took it well there goes my original tune along with it.

If you are under warranty, always keep your tuner, 2 bar sensor, and the tool to pull the 2 bar in the car at all times that way if you have a failure on the road, you can flash back to stock while waiting on the tow truck.

As for your original tune, fire up your SCT updater software, there is a function to back up your stock tune to your PC in case of tuner theft or failure.

Definitely agree with FoMoCo and keep it inside the car for some reassurance because you never know whats in store for ya down the road, personally like to keep my valuables in the trunk, much safer and cooler in the trunk area and especially in warmer climates.  Z

Okay.. so with the boost 93 tune I filled the tank up the other day.  The gas readout said 378 miles to E.
So I drove and got it down to about 30miles to E before filling up again.  This time the readout said 414 miles to E.

I drove 130 miles so far today and my readout says 312 miles to E.  That's 102 miles.  I guess this is a good thing?  How did the computer recalculate how many miles I have to E?  Based on average miles per gallon increasing or something?

Should be based off of mpg estimates for the current trip (i.e., since last fuelup) assuming you reset the counters.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

BiGMaC

The car computer considers several aspect of how you drive and computes miles to empty based on that and how much fuel it believes is isn't the tank.  I recommend doing it the old fashioned way .... Fill up.... Drive most of a tank... Fill up using the same technique.. Subtract the odometer readings and fuel added to compute your actual mpg.  Nothing's perfect.
