Questions on the SHO after fixing all my F150 EB issues

Reviving this post. The F150 ecoboost crowd has proven that the weep hole is necessary and has no adverse effects on performance or longevity. I am looking to do this on my 13 SHO since it has developed the same stutter. I would like to do the weep hole and the plugs at the same time. Next question is does anyone know how to gain easy access to the CAC?

Maybe nessasary for the f150.....i would use a 1/4" drill bit and also loosen all the clamps on the charge piping that will help also expel some of the pressurized air

A 1/16" weep hole has proven effective to evacuate the water and the oil residue. There are several evaluations that show there is no pressure drop. I know that the SHO crowd thinks this is crazy, but coming from the F150 community where this horse has been beat to death, it absolutely is a no brainer. This is the first thing that all F150 folks do when they buy the ecoboost. Since mine stutters now, I would like to drill this hole so that the condensate has a place to go rather than getting passed through the plugs (blow out spark or hydrolock), and then blow out the down stream items (cats and O2 sensorrs).

AJP turbo

You wont see a pressure drop....the ecu will just make the turbo run as hard as it needs to to get the TIP up to what it needs to be.

Its the first thing people do on the f150 because they read dumb s*** on a forum and think its bible

You have another problem if ur car stumbles now...sorry its not going to hurt your cats or 02 sensors or cause spark blowout

Do you have access to 93 octane fuel?try using a top tier gas such as Shell,BP,Exxon, gasoline to see if it helps any,or try adding some E85 in the mix should help with the poor winter-blend gas.  Z

I have, and it does not affect the stutter. This car stutters just like the eco F150 I had... all due to condensate. I want the hole in there so that the condensate (and oil gunk) get blown out to the atmosphere. I do not want to ever worry about moisture accumulation from the CAC getting passed through and blowing out spark (stutter).

Look on the different forums. You will see the folks with stutter issues then have cats and O2 sesnors that go bad. I have done my research on this engine after all the issues I had with my F150. I was able to sell that truck off and am finally back in a V8 version.

Interesting...i dont have thise problems....ford hand built my car for me though...its served me well to not believe info from forum sheople that are generally clueless

AJ I assume you have very low mileage on your car and hope she treats you well on the later stages.  Z

So where exactly are these "shudder" problems happening?

WOT?, part throttle?

Trying to find what issues plague both applications of the 3.5 ecoboost in the F150 and SHO as i own both.
2013 SHO (28k miles) and Airraid CAI
- car has been fine, but had a noticeable "tick" on idle all the time. Added fuel injector cleaner (Chevron w/ Techron) and went away.

2012 F150 EB (83k miles)
- truck had a stutter on acceleration as i passed a vehicle and nearly got myself killed.
- truck had a bad battery and i replaced it
- my findings: the f150 application (front mount CAC) generates condensate because it cools too well. On boost, water is ingested through engine blowing out plugs. So, i drilled a 1/16 weep hole in the intercooler and now it drains. I changed plugs to new motorcraft plugs gapped at .028. Now, problem solved. For the battery, I swapped it and still kept getting intermittent battery light on dash. I found out that there is a battery monitor reset that needs done at dealer (scan tool / tuner can't do I found) so that the de-clutching of the alternator happens at the right times (for gas mileage). Onc they reset, all has been fine and averaging 20mpg. I also had a tick sound at idle as well as some roughness. I added fuel injector cleaner (Chevron w/ Techron) and it is now fixed.

So, question is how much fo these two applications share for issues? Anyone drill a weep hole in the SHO CAC?

the idle tick has been explained to me as the direct injection, I always thought it was a noisy valve train. Sorry I don't remember where I read that it just stuck with me because it bothered the hell out of me too.

The HPFP makes a lot of noise....

That's the only tic I've ever heard.

Moderate to heavy acceleration. Examples are passing or accelerating to get out of an intersection.

The hole would be just that - no valve or anything. I just want to make sure that water and oil get bliwn out before it builds. Never know when it will cause a problem.

There is more going on with your car...what other mods do u have....home made or otherwise?

You sure you're not seeing a heavy knock or false knock event?

Is the car downshifting when this happens?

A +7 KR event will put a damper on the fun real quick and feel like hesitation or shudder. What's really happening is the car is saying, hell no.

Also, TC events happen sometimes w/o the light flash.

Any logs of the events you are referring to?
