Ticking is not an issue, as long as it is regular. The injectors will do that. In fact, the entire DI setup, if you take the engine cover off, sounds like a diesel engine, which it kind of is. Most people hear a very brief 1-2 second rattle, maybe like a marble in a tin box or a rattlesnake even, at cold startup. This is due to lack of oil pressure in the phasers/timing chain area, most likely, so it is important to use the right weight oil as spec'd in the OM, and the OEM Motorcraft filter where the ADBV allows for quicker oil flow at cold start. Don't overdo the OIC, as dirt in the oil can clog the phaser screens.
Timing chain rattle is very distinctive, caused by excessive slack in the chain, and may not be just at startup. To be sure, you should use a mechanic's stethescope or a LONG screwdriver, place it on the timing cover area and take a good listen as you remote start (or have someone start) the engine. Videos on YT, on the F150, very plainly heard.
