Radar Detectors.....

After another speeding yesterday (64 in a 45), I'm looking to purchase a new radar detector.  My Escort 8500 didn't do anything when the police popped me with his new "LIDAR".

What brand/model of radar detectors are you using these days for the new laser technology that the police are using?

I'm leaning towards the Escort 9500 simply because it has 360 degree "protection" & GPS.  The K40 brand will pay your speeding tickets within 1 year of purchase.........that may be a good enough reason to try them out too!!

Thanks.

I've been very pleased with my 9500ix and like being able to update it with my PC at home.
If you want to go all out for protection from Laser/Lidar you may want to look into installing laser jammers.

Radar detectors work if you're not going so fast that you can't get to/under 10mph over the posted speed limit.  I have an 8500 x50 that I've been more than pleased with.  It doesn't catch everything but police are tricky and do catch you at times.  I spend lots of time scanning as far ahead as I can possibly see.  I've also been popped by laser w/ my 8500 which never went off but if I would have been adhering to my personal rule I wouldn't have gotten a ticket.

Detectors are just tools and drivers are still required to be proactive.  Try not to become complacent with it.

I say lawyer up or go see the prosecutor, get the ticket changed to a non-moving violation and keep your speed to no more than 10-15mph over the posted.  Although being almost 20 over you might need a lawyer.

Something else I use is the Waze app on my Andriod phone (available for Apple phans also :) ) while driving.  Like the Escort Live app but free, people will report police (or anything else for that matter) and then you will see them using the app.  This has helped a lot also and there's LOTS of other "Wazers" out there.

Question for you wazers, how much does it run your phone battery down? Do you need to use a power cord for a longe trip say 5 hours or more?

Yes!!

My Nexus 5 needs to be connected to power, and will still lower the battery charge level on my approx one hour drive to/from work.

Anyone using Wazer noting false speed traps? The web is full of reports of false location posting by LEOs, especially FLA... Any problems on this line?

Galaxie...just as J-Will said, yes you will likely need to be plugged into power.  It's not any different than using Google Maps w/ navigation really.  It's the GPS chip that does a lot of battery draining along with pulling/sending data.

MaC...I've not hear of this and not sure how this works in the LEO's favor.  They're simply making false reports of LEO sightings which in turn will cause other Wazers to be caution and/or slow down in the area where posted.  If they setup shop further down the road someone Wazing is likely to report it and the jig is up.

Understand... Seems since LEOs want traffic slowed the false reports accomplish this...,true that real setups would be reported. Just seems like the false reports would increase effective numbers by multiplying the number of apparent LEOs.

I'm using it on my work phone (5c) and was just complaining about how much battery it uses.  I was 87% battery yesterday and after about 1.5hrs of use it was down to 28%.

As I've already mentioned I drive a ton (about 4-5K per month) and just about overtime Waze tells me that a LEO is around I'll see one (generally with somebody pulled over.)  On my drive this week I saw 6 officers in about a 15 min stretch and Waze alerted on all but one and I was already plenty paranoid by the 3rd one.

As far as power it will kill off my iPhone6 on a 3-4 hr drive.  I keep it plugged into the car and I'm golden.
