Radar detectors work if you're not going so fast that you can't get to/under 10mph over the posted speed limit. I have an 8500 x50 that I've been more than pleased with. It doesn't catch everything but police are tricky and do catch you at times. I spend lots of time scanning as far ahead as I can possibly see. I've also been popped by laser w/ my 8500 which never went off but if I would have been adhering to my personal rule I wouldn't have gotten a ticket.
Detectors are just tools and drivers are still required to be proactive. Try not to become complacent with it.
I say lawyer up or go see the prosecutor, get the ticket changed to a non-moving violation and keep your speed to no more than 10-15mph over the posted. Although being almost 20 over you might need a lawyer.
Something else I use is the Waze app on my Andriod phone (available for Apple phans also

) while driving. Like the Escort Live app but free, people will report police (or anything else for that matter) and then you will see them using the app. This has helped a lot also and there's LOTS of other "Wazers" out there.
