Leaking axle seal

Took the SHO in for service Monday for the slipping tranny at take off thinking they would do the TSB for this issue. Instead they call me to tell me about a leaking axle seal that caused the tranny to lose fluid and they are sure that caused my issue

I am not thoroughly convinced yet...as the slipping tranny has been acting like this for over a year ... I doubt the axle could leak out fluid for that long and not leave the tranny bone dry

Might be the seal in between the tranny and PTU allowing gear oil into the tranny?

What I don't get is, if the output shaft seals are leaking, they will leak gear oil, not transmission fluid. Unless the transmission output shaft seal failed, and it IS leaking ATF into the PTU. In that case, I'd figure perhaps it'd flow out the PTU breather. And perhaps even bomb the PTU.

Did you present the TSB to them to back up the symptoms? They won't necessarily look for it on their own, depending on the dealership. As far as trans fluid leaking into the PTU, it will eventually come out as a mix via the PTU vent. That's what usually happens on the Edge, though rare to see the combo, most often only PTU fluid.

Well, you can always slap 'em in the back of the head when you have to take it in again for the same issue?

That is 100 accurate and is apparently happening fairly often with the tranny seal.

Guess I didn't follow the OP...
But, subsequent posts suggests there's a TSB specifically to address a failed main output shaft seal? Yeesh...didn't know that. That sucks. It's an issue predominantly on the Edge though?

It's like the tranny feels bad for the PTUs embarrassingly paltry gear oil capacity, and tries to help out. Lol

The TSB 11-12-10 I was referring to was the one for slipping transmission at take off or slow speed under 5mph followed by a clunk, as in the transmission finally gets into gear

Ah, okay. Yes, I'm familiar with that anomaly. My SHO had exhibited a number of times. Thanks for referencing. I'm going to look it up!

Ugghh just like I thought the issue is not resolved yet. Tranny got stuck in 2nd gear (manual mode) while pulling away from a stop sign and then when I tried to upshift with the paddle it slipped and revved up

back to the dealer I guess

Do you have a service order which states exactly what they replaced and repaired?
