Corrosion recall

This is all I could find:

"Nearly 200,000 Taurus sedans from the 2010 to 2014 model year are being recalled for corrosion issues. In areas where road salt is used, corrosion can cause the license plate lamp to short circuit, overheat and possibly cause a fire. Ford knows of 18 fires that started because of this issue, one of which a customer put out by hand, suffering an injury in the process."

I haven't seen a late model Taurus with corrosion of any kind. Kinda surprising to hear this.

Hmmm, great. I live in an area with heavy road salt use, I park outside every day and I have a license plate bulb out. Let's see what happens! Haha.

When I replaced my license plate light bulb my left housing was full of water/rust.
I was able to save it but I thought it was strange that the right side was bone dry.

Electrical connector on late model Fords don't seem to be top-notch. Enough problems with electrical sockets burning up or shorting out. Nothing major for the most part, but replacing with aftermarket (not OEM) connectors is the usual solution. In the case of the Edge, it is the connectors for bulbs contained in the taillight assembly.

mine was too but I was unable to save the metal tabs inside, went to the dealer for new lens and the whole housing is what I ended up with ... parts guy said the part number had changed and this superseded it

Funny thing the license plate bulb housing where cracked rusted to hell when I bought my car with 6k on it. I replaced them with new one never looked at them again. But they the exact same style unit used in the mustang. I will have to check them again to see how they are holding up, possibly they may come from a different vendor.

1 of mine was cracked and I had replaced after the first winter. I should probably check them again too.

About time they finally admitted to the electronic power steering issue, this cost me $1500. The internal relay on my steering gear ended up being corroded which causes them to short/malfunction and will make you lose power-steering. This happens on the most of their cars with the electronic power steering, more so on the Explorer/Flex Ecoboost.

How did it cost you $1500? Out of warranty at the time? Maybe you can petition Ford for a partial/ full refund?
