The dyno pulls on the CAI stuff is a lost cause unless we have $$ and time. To satisfy our curiosity we would need to do the following all in short order.
1) Stock pull. No tune
2) Stock pull. Tuned
3) Drop in filter. No tune
4) Drop in filter. Tune
5) CAI system of choice. No tune
6) CAI system of choice. Tune
Same for if you want to experiment with the 'snorkel.'
I don't see a lot of people doing this as an experiment. I do see companies/ shops doing this and misrepresenting numbers to sell their product though.
Kinder.... I have baseline stock pulls on my 2013 SHO in addition to below
I have stock BTB dyno pulls (9 total while helping PPE develop their downpipes) ..with the OEM set-up and with nothing but the open end of the saxophone (no OEM, No filter).... All same day. No difference in HP or TQ in my '13 SHO. This says to me that with stock tune the OEM intake and box are not a restriction. here is the link to the testing:
http://www.ecoboostperformanceforum.com/index.php?topic=2054.msg28591#msg28591So I only need to compare tuned results of the same tests and dyno to prove what I suspect... the stock intake and filter provide all the air the engine can use no matter the tune.... dunno, but I will be doing that.
IF there is no difference when tuned between OEM and no intake tube /filter/box then I only need to test the tubing I replace (the saxophone) to get the answer for the turbo feed tubing change.
So I only need max 3 pulls in each of 3 circumstances to find out if the CAI being built for me adds performance.... probably only cost $300 or so....
No other testing planned because... I already know the Airaid and K&N Typhoon usually result in slower quarter miles from multiple track results testing from members, by .1-.2s ... including 4DR and bamsho, both of whom tested both on same car and same day.... for both times improved with replacing the OEM
I may try stock tune... but why?... if the OEM vs nothing numbers are the same as before with a tune. All done... and to be done at Black market Racing on their dyno with the same operator (jeremy) in all cases.
