I believe both EcoboostPowerParts.com (EB-PP.com) and Livernois now have CA legal catted downpipes.  I know the PPE pipes offered by EBPP have worked for whomever has ordered and installed them.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I have 49 state legal cats on my dodge and here in cali it passes smog with flying colors but will not pass visual due to not having a carb number for the headers and cats, I pay a little extra to get it smogged so I dont have to put it back to stock, so long story short, if they have a carb number you will be 100% fine, if not you will have trouble passing the visual inspection.

I am not sure if the PPE downpipes have a carbon number on them.  CA emissions are a b*tch ... Anyway if they do it's in a place that can't be seen after install, but if the O2 sensors are all on it will pass readiness and tailpipe tests in at least 49 states... but CA?...  Mike  or EBPP Tom might chime in on this issue.

I'm moving to Nevada soon and they only have 2 county's with smog and I will not be in either, so im going to run catless down pipes after I move just as a big middle finger to CA more than the 3-5hp I would get over  a catted down pipe

Thanks guys, yeah I have not been able to find actual smog legal down pipess for Cali. However, my uncle is a smog tech here so maybe with a little persuasion I can get him to pass it. I believe I wont have to start smogging the vehicle until it is at least 5 years old anyway.

I can't wait to get out. I believe it's the 6th year after its new you have to start smogging every other years registration. And ya it would be just visual you would need him to look the other way if go with a catted down pipe. On my dodge I just had to do this and the smog guy was cool about it just said he only does it for people his friends vouch for though so he doesn't get his license taken away.

I don't know of any smog stations in Cali that are going to be looking for "CARB" ( California Air Research Board ) numbers on a Cat. Half of them don't even look for the Cats. If the tech look under the car, they are glancing to make sure that there are cats on the car. I heard that in the next couple of years they are going to check your smog via the OBDII port. Meaning they are going to be looking for codes. So the sniffer test.

So as far as getting the down pipes with the cats. I would just get them. The smog tech's aren't going to even notice.

I Completely agree, they are supposed to check but I doubt they will either

Good point, it's not like they put the vehicle on a lift.

Likely CA residents know about it already... since the article is 6 months old.

My questions would be:  Are they still doing this?  and ....Have you ever seen one of these checkpoints?
Those in the know living in California please chime in.

With  California's budget showing $443 billion in state and local debts, are they continuing to do this?...  Wondering how much more money CA doesn't have that the legislature wants to spend.... on testing and paying people not to drive.

Apologies to boltman for this getting off his OP question.
