Might be swapping out the '13 SHO for a '14 Tremor

So the dealership I do business with has a Tremor that's been sitting on their lot for several months now and the last time I spoke with the sales manager (a '13 SHO owner and the guy who helped me get my SHO fixed) he said the Tremor just isn't generating much interest in our area. The area we're in is mostly high-end European cars and stuff like that, and I've only seen a couple of SHOs on the roads over the last 2 years, so I'm not too surprised by this.

Anyways, I've been thinking about that Tremor since I saw it so today I hit him up to see what kind of deal he could drum up for taking my SHO and getting me into the Tremor. My plan is to have the Tremor for weekends, take my wife's car as a commuter vehicle (Corolla with 170k miles, still runs/drives fine), and get her a new car (she wants a new Camry). This Truck is something I'd definitely build up into a beast and hang onto for a long time.

I'm still waiting on a price for the Tremor, which they have listed for about $35.5k, and he said the black book says $26-28k for the SHO. He said the SHO's resale value is low, and they have a new '14 SHO listed for $36k, so I told him it's all good as long as he can hook me up on the truck side of the deal. This is just one of those "throw it at the wall and see if it sticks" ideas but I hope it works out. We shall see...

Sounds like it could be a great deal and opportunity...

The downside is the reminder that a little marketing by Ford could support our resale value/KBB/Blackbook value of the SHO.

Go for it!

That is basically what the guy I'm working with said...The SHO's resale is suffering from the days when used Taurus fleet vehicles flooded the used car market, driving down value. A lot of people aren't familiar with the SHO so they see "used Taurus". Most of the people in my area have no clue when it comes to the SHO, unless they're lined up next to me at a stoplight of course. (-: I doubt there will be much of a 'collector value' for the Tremor in the future but it is only being offered for one year so that will make it sort of 'rare'. I just like the idea of a regular cab / short box with the EcoBoost engine and the Tremor will meet all of the needs I have for a truck.

The Tremor can be tuned the same as other EcoBoost F150s right. I don't see why not but I just want to be sure. The only thing I envision being an issue is aftermarket exhaust kits, but I'd prefer to build my own exhaust anyways.

Personally I'd keep the SHO.  They don't need much to run strong and the appearance with factory rims is good.  The Tremor needs wider better looking rims.  It also needs to be lowered about 4-5 inches.  Ford could've done so much more with this truck.  After owning 2 Lightnings a gen 1, and my Gen 2, I was really hoping this was the Gen 3 that Lightning owners have been waiting on.  The motor/drivetrain is good, not great, but there is no sport in that truck.  A supercharged Coyote would be awesome.

And looking at the advertised price they've already taken $9,037 off sticker, which I'm sure includes rebates.  I don't see them having much more if any room to negotiate on that.

There are people putting down decent times with supercrew F150s and 3.55 gears with bolt-on mods. Based on that I'm thinking a truck that weighs 500 pounds less and has 4.10 gears would be plenty quick with some of the common EcoBoost upgrades. Aside from taking the truck to the strip I'd be using it to haul my ATV, go hunting, and stuff like that so I'd probably keep the suspension as it is...I definitely wouldn't be lowering the truck any. If anything, I'd be more inclined to go up than down.

Whether or not I make the change all depends on the offer they come back with. I'd like to get rid of my SHO sooner rather than later given all of the problems it has had during the first 25k miles. I like the car a lot, and there's no doubt that it performs well, but I have little faith left in it from a reliability standpoint. Like I said before, the Tremor should be a pretty good fit for my needs in a second vehicle...decent performance, able to haul stuff, 4x4 for winter weather, etc.

That would be a fun truck.  You may want to considering waiting and buying the 15' F150 with aluminum body.  It will weigh around 700 lbs less.  They should put wings on it because it's going to fly.

A 2015 supercab is my plan B if the Tremor deal doesn't pan out. Right now I am hoping they really want to move this truck since it hasn't generated the attention they hoped for and the 15s will be out before long.

Do post some side-by-side pics if the deal does happen!

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!
