Hey guys,

Need help troubleshooting why VVT isn't engaging when it should...

Background - started doing some logging with AJP for my Edge Sport to see how quick we can make the platform.  This was back in December.  Go through a couple of revisions on 93, feels great!

So then on to E30, on the third revision I feel a little hiccup in boost and am like whatever...
But then I add more octane to get more out of it and the hiccup gets progressively worse and worse.

So I switch back to E30 Unleashed and it doesn't have the hiccup but the boost is about 2 psi more in 3rd then drops quick higher in RPM where the original file wasn't doing that.

I go back to 93 and it is still there on the AJP tune.

Only think changed was the DV+ but it didn't show up when I initially installed so I figured that was out (I also am getting a stock on in soon to swap).  After reading a bunch of stuff online I see the less pulling acceleration starts when my In I start seeing the hiccup more... , everything is great and then all of a sudden I start feeling boost surges/drops out of nowhere.

I think it may be my diverter valve since I upgraded to the GFB DV+ while doing runs but didn't show any signs of issues with boost until maybe a month later after install.  I figured that this is most likely my Variable Valve Timing going to 0 as that is exactly when I feel the car not pull as hard.  Unfortunately I didn't log this in the beginning but now have.

Any idea's as to what to check to fix the VVT just going back to TDC during the middle of a run?  Logs attached for reference.

3rd gear runs rev8 and 19 are with issue
Datalog 2_21 is when I didn't have the issue with boost / VVT

Stock tune added.

No CEL or flashing lights on the dash... ugh.

Diverter valve?  Did you do the AJP mod or is this simply an aftermarket replacement for an oem part?

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Aftermarket replacement - http://www.gfb.com.au/products/blow-off-and-diverter-valves/dv-plus

Checked the VVT Solenoid and they seem to be looking fine.  Only one of them was misaligned with the filters so I re corrected that.  Pics attached.  I also noticed one of the Solenoid has an exposed wire (could see the copper part, so I taped that back up...)

Update: VVT still not engaging after fixes above.

Awaiting stock Diverter Valve to see if that fixes the problem.

Sorry I have not been of any help on this one.  I do hope the fix is simple, even if it might mean the hunt for a new AM replacement is in the offing.

Is there only 1 DV on the system?  I do not have access to Gen 2 manuals yet.

"AM" ?

There is only 1 DV on the system.  I have Gen 2 Manual, just tell me where to send it.

Think it could be something with the oil pump / oil pressure sensor?

The Ti-VCT actuators are mounted to the front of each camshaft, and the timing chain or timing belt is mounted to the actuator. The actuator is moved by oil pressure, which is regulated by a PCM-controlled solenoid. When the flow of oil is shifted from one side of the actuator to the other, the differential change in oil pressure rotates the camshaft to an advanced or retarded position. The PCM uses crankshaft position (CKP) and camshaft position (CMP) sensor values to determine engine timing. If the PCM detects a concern with the Ti-VCT system—usually an open in the solenoid circuit or incorrect actual engine timing in relation to desired engine timing—it will move the actuators to the default position and set a DTC.

Also you don't think it would be a spark plug gap issue, do you?

Doesnt sound like a plug gap issue at all.  Sounds more like the PCM is getting data it is not happy with or the valve is not holding.  Brad doesnt see anything unusual in the logs?  Maybe an overboost condition or even a taxed fuel pump?

Fixed...

The Diverter Valve caused the issue... stock DV on the left,  aftermarket on the right, back in business!
