Shopping for Tires

The MKS currently has Michelin Primacy MXV4s. While I don't have anything particularly bad to say about them, they are nearing their end of life and I'm curious as to what else is available. I'm strongly considering a directional all-season tire and water shedding is at the top of my list in terms of priorities. The MKS does have the EcoBoost Appearance Package, so that means I'll be shopping for 245/45R20 meats to fit my 20" wheels.

So far, the best value I've found is for the General G-Max AS-03 at $800 mounted and balanced with free rotations for life. This is from a local mom and pop tire shop. I've bought many sets of tires from these folks and I've been pleased with each and every purchase.

Thoughts?

The Generals are a great deal for the money.

I bought the Generals for my GTO.  I cannot recommend.  A very noisy tire.

On my SHO it orignally had the Michelins 20" non pp.  At 50K I got rid of them and put on Goodyear Eagle F1 supercars, OE on the PP cars.  I couldn't be happier with the ride and rain control.  It rains alot in South Louisiana, no issues.  Currently they are $161.77 each at Discounttiredirect.com.  They have a instant rebate of $25 off for the set, and if you sign up for their CC, you can get an additional $30 back in a visa gift card.  Unfortunately I see they are backordered.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

If I lived down south, I would be all over those!

Wow,$147 for the F1's is great.I probably don't need tires for at least a year,I wonder how long you can store tires before they start to degrade?

I appreciate all of the responses. Keep in mind, I'm looking for an all-season tire.

Black99Lightning,
Your noise claim is surprising. Based on the other reviews I've read, the G-Max is supposed to be a quiet tire, which is one of the reasons it made my list. Well, that and it's supposed to be among the best in terms of ability to shed water.

... I have much thinking to do.

joleat:
i've been looking at tires also & to me as long as you have 20" wheels the conti DWS looks like a good all season tire from all the reviews i've read & some here on the forum. i think they are under $900 a set at tire rack. all i know is the goodyears rs-a are where not great to begin with & with 21k on them are almost dangerous when it's wet.

Ive been eyeing the new Mickey Thompson All Season tire they have out now. Not sure how well its snow ability is, but even on my MXV4s Ive plowed through some very deep snow with no issue, so I cant say im overly worried about it. Im hoping to be adding Meth soon so im looking for better dry grip, but I want to stick with an all season tire as well. Down side is they are $200 each.

I'm leaning towards the Firstone Firehawk Wide Oval A/S since Firestone is owned by Bridgestone and the last time I checked Bridgestone didn't make anything in a 245/45-20. You can check them out at Tire Rack:
