For those that go to the track, which tires are you running? My current shoes are running low almost to the wear indicators. I have been happy with them but either they are worn out or the track I go to doesn't prep well but I am having a hard time getting traction and I am breaking the wheels loose again at the 60ft mark...

Currently have BFgoodrich G-Force Comp 2 Ultra performance...

Im running Firestone Indy 500 Firehawks.  Seem to work well at the track, and on the street.  These are a summer tire only.  I got them cause I don't drive mine in the snow.  Also got my first 1.79 60ft with these tires and H&R springs.

Then there is the Conti DW which is their summer high perf tire.  I ran them on my STSV (460hp rwd) and even in wet Seattle roads they held well, so they can handle foul weather.  nice tire.

I plan to get these soon as well. Awesome tire from what I read.

So my BFgoodrich came with 45K warranty... they want to measure how much is left on the tires and see if they can get me a prorated amount back since I have put less than 20K on the tires.... we will see...

I haven't replaced the ones that came on my car yet... but on my previous car I ran Michelin Pilot Super Sports.  If you don't need an all season tire, then I absolutely recommend giving the Pilot Super Sports a try.  Fantastic stopping power, in wet or dry.  The car was a 2004 Lexus GS430, which is a RWD sedan with a 4.3 liter V8.  300hp and 325tq, and when I went to the drag strip I could not break them loose at the start line, even when I tried, lol.  Granted the car had 164,000 miles so I doubt it was still putting down that much power, but still.

The shop is going to warranty my tires... $200 for a brand new set of comp 2's... figured it was better than spending $1K...

I need new tires soon (all season), as mine are almost to the wear bars.  I've pretty much settled on the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+, and Costco has a 1 cent install deal right now.  But they come in two versions: a 99V version, and a 103Y version.  For a few bucks difference, it seems like the natural choice would be the 103Y version.  But I was thinking that the 99V version might have a bit softer side wall, which might be better on the track.  My car will never go over 149 mph, so I'm not really concerned about the speed rating.  What do you guys think?

On tire rack the Y version has a bit better ratings and is considered a Ultra High Performance vs the H version being a High Performance...

They both appear to have the same UTQG rating... so the compound would be the same...

Dunno...

EDIT: quick googling shows that the Y version has more steel belts inside the tire making it a stiffer tire.

The argument for a softer sidewall is that it allows the tire to wrinkle as needed, much like the Mickeys.  So, better traction with softer sidewalls, for the track.  All seasons > summer in some cases, even, thinking of pilot super sport vs dws.  Now autoxing, pss would have the edge.
