Warranty work....and then some....

Took the SHO in Friday of last week for a bunch of warranty work and the fuel controller recall (even though I had it replaced already under warranty so I should get a refund).  Rear camera is foggy, center stack touch controls not responding intermittently, rubber roof rails constantly mold up and a recently started having some front end noise (I'd say suspension related).  I even threw in the rear EB emblem de-laminating for replacement under warranty but I was told it might not be covered.  I was a bit perplexed by that as I have a Ford premium bumper to bumper warranty...meh.  Also found out that the dealership is now doing BG services so I figured I'd rack up an invoice and get the coolant, trans, PTU and RDU all serviced.  Car had 68k miles on it when I took it in.

Funny enough the service writer was trying to persuade me to not do the BG services since they all don't need done until 100k miles.  I just laughed and told him he'd benefit from doing some research on the SHO's and Ford's recommended service intervals.  I just hate having to return everything to stock every time I need to take it in for something.  But we'll see if they say anything about the Airaid intake and noisemaker eliminator pipe.

Looking for "the call" tomorrow hopefully with a status update on issues found and what not.

Until then I'll be rockin' the '17 F-250 6.7 with more than twice the TQ of my little SHO.  LOL!  2-STROKE FTW!

I took mine in for problems as well. While it was in I had the BG Induction cleaning done. PTU changed. Trans Changed. 30k is completed. My service guy didnt blink when I asked to have that done.

It has to go back in for one more problem when the parts come in. I am going to have the PTU done again to flush out the crap one more time.

Hhhhhmmm...I thought Ford condoned any kind of induction service and having it done would possibly void a warranty claim.  I had considered having the induction service done but didn't want to take the chance of it causing more problems than it fixed.

I hope your dealership comes through!  As far as induction service, I would advise having a visual check performed as a prerequisite to see if it is needed or is ill advised.  I would be more worried frankly about fuel in the oil :)

Well...I broke down and called the dealer since it's been a week with no update from the service writers. So...their waiting on parts apparently. Getting replaced is the backup camera, front strut, updated the APIM for the touch controls and the real kicker...a new ptu due to a leak apparently. Roof rails and rear emblem are not covered under a premier bumper to bumper warranty....wtf. they shouldn't call it a bumper to bumper warranty then.  Writer said early next week....we'll see.

Oh...there's no question that all the stuff other than the BG services and the stupid roof trim and emblem is going to be covered.  Good thing is now that the PTU is getting replaced I won't have to pay for that BG service. Yippie!  Curious if they'll put in the latest PTU w/ a vent unless that's specific to the PP only.

I did price out the roof trim and emblem...trim pieces are $80/ea...ouch...and the EB emblem is only $20.  Also considering replacing the other side strut just as a precaution.  To me it's like replacing wheel bearings....if you do one you might as well do both.  Strut was $60 but I don't think that was a complete bolt on unit complete with spring, etc.  Have to also dig into what it would take effort wise to change it out.

Only the PerfPk SHO, the XSport and the Flex get the PTU with the drain plug (not sure about MKS).  Also vehicles in the Middle East.  But the vent extension to the engine bay should still be there.

The shock absorber would drop out if you simply said BOO loud enough.

Removal and Installation

NOTICE: Suspension fasteners are critical parts because they affect performance of vital components and systems and their failure may result in major service expense. New parts must be installed with the same part numbers or equivalent part, if replacement is necessary. Do not use a replacement part of lesser quality or substitute design. Torque values must be used as specified during reassembly to make sure of correct retention of these parts.

NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature on the stock rod nut to prevent the shock rod from rotating when removing or installing the shock rod nut.

Pull back the luggage compartment side trim panel to gain access to the shock absorber upper nut.
NOTICE: Do not use power tools. Tighten using hand tools only. Failure to do so will result in shock absorber damage and/or Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) concerns.

Remove and discard the shock absorber upper mount nut.
To install, tighten the new nut to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
Remove the wheel and tire. For additional information, refer to Section 204-04 .
NOTE: Use the hex-holding feature to prevent the stabilizer bar link stud from turning while removing or installing the nut.

Remove and discard the stabilizer bar link upper nut and disconnect the link from the wheel knuckle.
To install, tighten the new nut to 55 Nm (41 lb-ft).
Remove and discard the shock absorber lower bolt and remove the shock absorber.
To install, tighten the new bolt to 175 Nm (129 lb-ft).
To install, reverse the removal procedure.

Strut big fella....strut.  Not shock.  :D  Shocks are nothing to change.

The strut diagram I saw online looked like the spring isn't capture on the strut itself like some I've seen are.  So it's constantly under the tension of the spring which means a very very careful removal or bad things could happen.

Struts on the 13+ are cake to do.  If you can do the shocks, you can do the struts.  You just need to be careful when compressing the spring.  Other than that, it's not really that big of a deal.  Just be grateful you don't have a 10-12.  Now those are a PITA to do.

That's what I was figuring...one bolt at the bottom and a couple at the top but I need to compress that stupid spring.  Not the end of the world but just something to make sure it's done right so I don't take a trip to the ER.  :D

They call it that but my experience is that "appearance" items are not covered. I ran into that with the chrome trim on my 2011 taillights and the leather seat ripping. I had the seat replaced before factory warranty expired and they still wouldn't cover it a few years later with premium care.

It's really not that big of a deal.  Go slow and don't do anything stupid like dropping a compressed spring on the ground.  Advanced auto rents a pretty safe kit.

Rolled right past week #2 with the car still at the dealership.  Once again...no update from them at all after being told it should have been ready early this past week.  :wall:

Time to do the service writes job again and call to get a status update on Monday morning.  :icon_bs:
