Does "sourcing the same parts" mean that Rat Stat and Reische are not making mods themselves?
Great question. I see on the Reische website they say:
"Our FORD-4D, FORD-G5 & FORD-50 thermostats are custom made with the same size diaphragm and bypass control as the OEM units. Each of our thermostats is modified by hand using only U.S. made parts and then quality inspected to ensure consistent opening temps. These t-stats are the only ones specifically designed to fit these applications making them the best performing low temp units on the market!"I'm not sure how they're "modified" at either place. I also went on the Stant website (
www.stant.com) and looked at their application guide. I did not see a 170 degree option for a 2013 Explorer, Taurus, Flex or Interceptor. They had 180 (OE), 188, and 190. Maybe the "modification" is to take the guts out of some other t-stat and put it in the OE cage?
I wish I had taken pictures of my Rat Stat before I installed it, but I did compare to all the Reische images when I received it, and all the stampings and numeric identifiers were identical. I just assumed that's what I was sent. It does support the possibility that they
could be built from the same parts. I have no idea what the performance tolerance can be on a thermostat, but perhaps the benefit of the Reische is that they appear to quality inspect each unit to ensure optimal performance. Or maybe they are exactly the same as Rat Stat...
At the end of the day, I'm in agreement with derfdog that I should be good to go with my Rat Stat/Stant/Reische?? frankenstat.
