Used Tuners

So I was thinking about purchasing one of the used tuners that are currently for sale on the board and was kind of wondering what I would have to do to make them work on my car (2011 SHO btw).

Here is what I have gathered so far and someone please correct me if I am wrong.

Livernoise- If its an SCT from Livernois as long as I can marry the tuner to my car and I have the same mods as the previous owner I should be okay right ? (atleast with regards to 3- bar map or alky injection?). Or am I way off base?

Unleashed- If its an unleashed I would assume I would also have to spend the 150 on a tuning fee as he custom tunes the vehicle atleast froma  data logging aspect.

Am I right in those assumptions or am I way off base? As a note I am just looking for a little more fun in the car, I barely bring it above 3,000 rpm.

P.s. thanks for the help, quasi new to the SHO world.

Livernoise, you have to pay to unlock the tuner, and that includes your tunes as well I believe. Something like $400 or so for that.

SCT tuner (will have to use Unleased or AJPTurbo, a Member on this forum, as livernoise does not support it) - Unless it has been locked (married to 5 different ECMs) once the previous owner unmarries and returns his/her car to stock, you will just need the tune files

AJPTurbo charges $150 for the tunes, and IMO is the best option. I believe the unleashed price is similar, but with less tunes.

Hope this helps.

Please disregard my ignorance....

But if i purchase used livernois tune would it be plug and play?

Sorry just a little confused.

If its unleashed/ajp  I would have to pay 150 for the tunes...

Thank you sir!

So at this point it really makes no sense to buy a a used tuner based on this math...

Used tuner 200 bucks....
Retune/liscense fee 150-300.

Brand new unleashed tune 400....

Kind of is a no brainer isn't it?

Also will be posting in the noob section soon, want to get a pic of the car...

Also why do I have to keep doing the verification after each post?

Ya, blame the spambots that plagued the forum a while back for our "beefier" drawbridge.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

While it may cost almost the same, it does save some money, and in my opinion, I would rather save the little bit and get a tune from AJP. He sells the tuners as well. Also that unleashed price is just One type of tune I believe, if you want other fuels, etc. you will have to pay more.

First off wahoo the verification thingy is gone!

Second, I talked to Torrie a while ago and he said that the 400.00 covers any minor updates to your tune. i.e. new 3 bar, downpipes, etc.

Might as well go that way...

That is correct. But I was referencing fuel types etc.

For instance, I currently have a full 93 octane tune, and an E20 tune. With torrie I would have had to pay for a second tune to get the E20 tune I believe.

If I wanted an 87 tune, I could get one, whereas again that would be another charge.

But it is your car, and your choice, and no matter the route you go a tuned SHO is a world of difference from stock, and much more fun.

In all honesty I barely ever get on this thing, but I want to get a tune so I can have some fun when I do.

There is a guy selling a used tuner and 3 bar in FS section so I am going to try and pick that up.... I had to pm him because I can't post in the for sale area. Guessing I have to get some more posts in...

I don't think you have to pay for a second tune for E20 with Torrie.  It is not a major change in the scheme of things.  FoMoCo can confirm tho.

I think if you want two tunes you have to pay for an additional, however if you just want a different tune then he will change it for you....

Atleast from what I have seen...

I had multiple E versions and a 93 and I never paid more than the initial cost.

I have 27 29 revisions on my AJPTurbo tune and I am so happy with the service and tunes that I like to fill his collection plate from time to time.

If you want to play and save money pick up a used SCT and then PM AJPTurbo... Trust me, it's worth every penny you will save :-D ..He should charge more for his tunes.... But hey, his business..

I have had LMS, Torrie, and AJPTurbo tune mine.. if you haven't already decided I HIGHLY recommend AJP...
