Mechanical or chemical cleaning? What do you think about the new CRC induction and valve cleaner they are advertising for GDI? http://crcindustries.com/auto/intake-valve-cleaner.php

Are you experiencing power loss for why you're looking to clean your engine?  Has anyone experienced power loss? I have 21k miles on my car and it feels faster than ever so I'm not putting anything in my engine till I can really feel some sort of loss or rough idle-js

The power loss is very gradual over 10's of thousands of miles, its nothing you will "feel". You may see it if you frequent the drag strip, but other than that and maybe a loss of fuel economy you won't see it coming until you borescope the intake and look at the valves.

They claim the chemical as safe but nowhere do I see them claim that that 46% of crap that comes off in the first hour is safe in your cylinders and turbos.

Definetly the crc intake cleaner that BiGMaC mentioned above does look like a promising product that chemically cleans your intake valves specifically made for GDI ,with the SHO having a high psi pump of 2150 ,this product seems to fullfill that aspect, overall it definetly seems better than the 3m which consists of a complete intake cleaner kit and probably a close competitor in that nature, great find.  Z

Iys probably as safe as the ACES product!!Honestly dont want to start a debate on this but truely nothing is 100 percent proven safe in the long run,not even gasoline,if your experiencing a rough idle along with poor mpg with a noticeable loss of power and your dealer is offering to perform an induction cleaning for free under warranty,my response would be why not,if it does rectify my symptoms, personaly my rough idle started around 5k which sounds to me its related to the carbon just starting(forming). BTW wish we all focused more on a catch can being our first mod over a tune respectivly and avoiding this (clutter)of buildup overtime.  Z

The only time a meth kit or catch can will be effective against carbon buildup is on the early stages of owning your vehicle, predominantly when your vehicle is roughly new, believe the same goes for the chemical intake cleaners, personaly dont think any of the mentioned products, mods will help in the later stages ,especially with excessive mileage, jusy my 2 cent.  Z

Yeah, the longer you wait, the more hardcore you'll have to get to fix the problem.  Same as anything else.  Our bodies learn to adapt to the environment we expose them to, and with so much computer power behind them, so do our vehicles.  Vehicles nowadays are treated as "throwaways" and not "collectibles", so the owner has to take that extra care right from the start.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Aparently this is new, dunno if its going to work though

How is this different than the 3M kit or using seafoam in the intake?

I would run from that dealer. Doing "warranty work" based upon what the customer says without verifying the concern violates Ford policy. I assure you the techs have boroscopes and this service procedure doesn't exist in the manual. If they have such little regard for their commitments to Ford, I seriously doubt they'd hesitate to screw you over.

Most likely they are throwing you a bone and internalling it through the dealer. I would also question why they are offering to do this when the only info available from Ford is against this. All recommended maintenance can be found in your owners manual, period. if i were you, I'd bring up these concerns with chemicals overheating turbos and chunks of debris taking out components. Then I would ask them to call the Ford hotline and discuss it with them before having this done.

Is the friendly dealer perhaps a BG service dealer as well? I know they will do an induction cleaning

Also, say we were to use the stuff Big Mac mentioned in pots 15, where in the intake stream and how would that be sprayed out of the can?  I'm assuming closest to TB but where to get it in is the question.
