Ok, I'm brand new to this forum. I came here because I recon most of you would know about what i'm trying to say. I have a 2007 Mazda Cx-9 GT. It has Ford's Duratec 35 V6 engine in it. Would it be possible to engine swap with a Duratec 35 Ecoboost? They're the same block and stuff, right? Or maybe take the turbos off of a wrecked car containing the D35 Ecoboost.... I was just wondering if anything like that was possible. Because a turbocharged Cx-9 would be pretty sweet.  ;D

Welcome, Jarrod!  The Duratec and the EcoBoost engines start with the same basic parts, but the EcoBoost has different heads, engine management, etc.  It is as a result also bigger (wider) than the Duratec, making it difficult for a good fit inside today's cramped engine bays.  Maybe with relocation of accessories?  Also, you would have to change the transmission to be able to put the power to the ground effectively, or custom build your existing transmission.

All this to say it CAN be done, but it is probably a time- & money-consuming project.  SwampRat is working on a custom solution for the Ford Edge, hopefully it will be completed within the next few months, then we will know for sure.

Maybe you could talk to these guys and see:

2007 Ford Edge SEL, Powerstop F/R Brake Kit, TXT LED 6000K Lo & Hi Beams, W16W LED Reverse Bulbs, 3BSpec 2.5w Map Lights, 5W Cree rear dome lights, 5W Cree cargo light, DTBL LED Taillights

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Way easier to just do a custom turbo kit on your motor with a forged shortblock. :)

I was quoted a $8,000 price tag for single turbo on the Duratec, with no internal system changes.  Add in the costs of parts & labor for installing the rotating assembly.  Then testing because it's a one-off solution ...

Thanks everybody! (I think i'm replying the right way. Lol.) It was just a thought and it looks like it would take lots of $$$. Haha. The new Ford Explorer Sport has the 3.7 Eco and it looks SWEET! Haha. It's in the same calss vehicle as the mazda cx-9. Maybe I should just get one of those in a few years. Haha. Thanks again everyone!

I bet it would cost $8K just in labor for a custom wiring solution....

You could do a rear mount single Turbo with water meth injection.
