Gas/Driveability Issue - Should I take it to the dealer?

Hello all,

I have a 2014 Taurus SHO, almost exactly 1,000 miles on it (and about 2 months old, if that).

Since I first got it, I noticed something odd.  For the first 20 seconds of driving or so, the car sort of "chugs".  Actually, that's not the right way to describe it.  It's almost like you have one foot on the gas (lightly) and the other is pumping the brakes, like a hesitation or something.  It goes away relatively quickly and once it goes away, the car is 100% fine.

Today, though, I experienced something totally different.  After driving the car for a couple of minutes, I turned the corner and hit the accelerator hard - maybe not 100% WOT but close.  And...nothing happened.  Literally, the car didn't move, it was like it just shut off.  I quickly let up on the pedal, then hit it again and the car took off like I expected it to the first time.

I don't want to panic or overreact but I'm somewhat worried that something is wrong.  However, no engine light came on so I'm not sure what the dealer can do, especially since this was the first (and so far, only) time this happened.  Any advice?

I would take it in for sure and hope they can replicate the issue.

I feel a little hesitation like you mentioned when in sport mode.   Doesn't bother me,  kind of like it. Do you have it when in D?

i feel like in M or S mode it sharpens the throttle response is this wrong? The car seems to really bog down after i while. someone posted this one trick to reset the throttle body or something. you go into accessory mode pump the gas once and or multiple times i heard anywhere from 1 to 3. then youll feel the car is very jumpy and quick to lay it down. it doesnt last more then a day at most.

I experienced that hesitation only in sport mode, after I received the new revised V8 tune from LMS it went away, now its a beast when I put it in Sport mode.lol

I unfortunately have also experienced both of these issues. Once with the acceleration not responding, and a couple of times the car felt like it was gonna stall and revving real low while stopped, and once while just taking off. . I have a 2013pp with 18500 miles on it ..and not a clue what is going on ?

I've only driven it in normal (D) so far, haven't done Sport mode.

These cars are "drive by wire", right?  I assume there is a sensor on the the gas pedal (as opposed to the old throttle cable).  Not sure about the daily hesitation, but when I hit the gas hard and nothing happened it was like the sensor wasn't working or something like that.  Very odd.

I'm on vacation next week, I think I might setup an appointment to have the dealer look at the car.

To all the members here with the hesitation issues, are your cars tuned or not,if they are tuned it could be tune related, finding the proper tune is essential,if your cars are not tune and still under warranty,i wouldnt hesitate an make an appt to the dealer, also a more detailed profile of your vehicles would be more helpful, just my 2cents,lol

I had the hesitation issue once, three years ago. Either the TSB's performed since then fixed it, or that scenario hasn't happens. I wouldn't worry.

Take it in and they should check to make sure it has all the latest programming updates.  If it does then there is an issue they need to look into. This is not normal and should not be put up with.

FYI...I took the car into the dealer today, there was a TSB relating to both the issues.  They reprogrammed it and said it's fine.  I only drove it home, but so far so good.

Glad to hear it, keep us updated!  Know the TSBs by any chance?

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Mine does this. It only happens if I start the car and take off right away. If I start the car and get settled (car 'warms up' for 30 secs) it doesn't do it. I figured it was a fueling/ choke kinda thing. As when you start the car it dumps piles of fuel in there. I can put the car in drive and not touch the gas and she will drive forward through my parkade at a decent clip.

To me it feels more like overly sensitive pedal response. ;)

That was exactly what mine was doing; the dealer said it was a known issue and was fixed with the TSB.  And no, sorry, I didn't get the number - the ticket is still open as I'm waiting for parts to come in to fix the license plate lamp recall.
