Like new LMS 3 bar tune

I have to thank LMS for working with me.  They did a wonderful job getting this tune tweaked.

I have been trying a few 3 bar tunes lately (fan settings too) and the 93v8 3 bar is by far the best one so far.

It's smooth and shifts better.  I do feel the increase in power at the higher RPM range compared to the 2 bar.  Can't tell if there is any more initial power (torque) but it feels there is more higher rpm end HP, and my Dashcommand says there is.  Boost also hit 16.1 lbs at one point.

I ran this in 40 and 50 degree temps and not one hesitation anywhere so far.

Other change from 93v7 2 bar is it does like to down shift a little sooner on partial acceleration instead of staying in higher gear lower rpm and using torque to accelerate.  This is similar to what I experienced in the cold weather tunes (the shifting only), the power is greater though than the cold weather tunes.

It also seems more controlled in daily driving in respect to stop and go or stop and really going.

Can't tell you for sure if it's truly faster, but I would bet it is slightly.

I'm stock except for colder plugs at .030, drop in K&N and 170 TS.

Yes!  Thanks for the report.  I knew the set up was great on my '12.  It's nice to know that the trend is continuing on the the later models.

JMR76

No problem.  The more I drive it I have to say the torque seams just as as good and power is definitely stronger and faster than any previous tunes.  I think my adaptive learning had something to do with the shifting earlier.  I love this version tune.  I would say this one is definitely faster than any previous tune I've had.

I'm interested in what others think if this tune also.

Hopefully, we will be hearing from BigMac on that soon!

3BAR MAP sensor is on the way...
MyCal is on the way...
Talked to Dan (the tuner) on the phone,...
Discussing it with the LMS shop foreman (Andy) tomorrow....
May finally get tuned ..., 3BAR and DPs!... gonna ask for a couple of other things in the tune.

I would like to see a dyno or comparative track times of 2 bar versus 3 bar to see if there are quantifiable improvements. The butt dyno is not the most accurate measurement tool.

I think it's time for a Torrie vs LMS dyno tune session!
I have a tuner, we'll just have to get a tune from him.

JMR76...    apologies... Don't want to hiJack your Thread... I am thrilled that you're pleased and thanks for the report/info.

Mike...   I agree. It would provide useful info to all for sure...  :thumb:  ...at least as far as dyno performance, plus if we did back to back pulls on both tunes using (first) the OEM intake/filter vs (second) no intake/filter we'd have the final bit of evidence for that little experiment about airflow restriction and aftermarket CAIs since we already have the pulls done with same car and stock tune done back to back. Then the info tune or not would be complete.

A few details to work out... we can do that PM or offline, and maybe let the experts discuss/debate the changes they made and why (not the code, just the tune features)  for all to read...  It would definitely help make decisions more rational for end users to get their desired outcomes.

What ever happened to the  "Skunk Works" new from the ground up CAI you guys were talking about a while back ?

After installing my HotPipe kit  I realized what a snakepit all the garbage OEM plastic Air intake plumbing is .
It would be nice to have a CAI with stainless or aluminum plumbing, cause like BigMac says there has got to be restriction in that mess .

After the dyno test (done during downpipe testing) on the presence of OEM airbox & filter vs. nothing but the pipe showed no benefit for performance it got put on hold... There's a chance here to compare it with tunes from 2 major tuners... The test has not been done with a tuned vehicle as far as I know, and definitely not back to back dynos testing the intake with 2 different tunes on the same car.
I'm personally not after the look or the sound of current aftermaket CAI's.... But I agree aesthetically a change would be nice at least for the piping if not the box... Anyway it would be the end of the tests needed to completely answer if a CAI can actually increase dyno HP.... I'll change my tune if the tunes show a gain for sure.... IF Mike and I can get it to happen.

Back to the 3BAR discussion pls.

Personally I do not care what dyno numbers say, a dyno is a tool used to tune your car. The numbers that mean stuff to me are the track numbers, what is your et. That is where the rubber meets the road so to speak. Now if you are talking gains from a specific part then I am interested but for one tuners tune to be better than another's there are still to many variables in that equation to really say one is better than the other. Was there more heat soak, did the dyno operator jack the numbers to make one look higher than the other, and yes they can do this.

To the op and to stay on subject glad to hear you like the feel of the tune with the 3 bar as that is what I am going with soon. Is this the most aggressive tune they have for the 3 bar sensor without meth or this a question I should ask Livernois.

Wasn't part of Mike's ,  bpd1151   custom CAI to do with improve airflow or was it just asthetics ?

You can get a 3 Bar sensor for under $100.  It is well worth the money to be sending a more refined signal to the PCM besides being able to read higher boost.  My experience with it is that it "smooths out" the RPM climb.  I think my money was very well spent and it is easier than changing an air filter! (Just need a tune for it.)
