It's all about drivability and how the car idles in my opinion. had a 12 mustang  stock  air box over 500 to the tire. I think sometimes they're hard to tune with a  cai just my 2 cents

You can get a 3 Bar sensor for under $100.  It is well worth the money to be sending a more refined signal to the PCM besides being able to read higher boost.  My experience with it is that it "smooths out" the RPM climb.  I think my money was very well spent and it is easier than changing an air filter! (Just need a tune for it.)

Hope so!  Mine arrived today!  I'll be sure to report as soon as I have the tune on, although I bet I find the same thing as you Dave.

I wonder what cahnged from the V7 to the V8 tunes ? I just received and loaded my 93V7CW3bar170*stat tune maybe 2-3 weeks ago lol

I beleive the 3bar tune did help with higher rpm boost and it eliminated all hesitation. I think the CW (cold weather) part of the tune helped but hesitation was finally eliminated with the 3bar MAP and tune tweak. I'm going regap my spark plugs from .28 to .32 now. I put them at .28 because my hesitation was so bad in high rpms I got all dramatic and gapped them down thnking I had spark blow out and I wanted to go to the opposite end of the gap spectrum while I was at it in hopes it helped. Now I don't think I had blow out I think my hesitation was manily from the winter blend of fuel and something to do with the 2bar MAP. I think my MPG went down 2-3mpg on highway when I gapped my plugs down so much. So I now want to gap as large as possible which should equal more MPG and the most powerful spark possible. Any thoguhts ?

what about V7 to V8 tune changes anyone ?

I also noticed my SHO downshifts sooner vs being able to just torque around other cars. Something when I pass now I'll get on it and it downshift then upshifts and as I try to torque on by it'll downshift again lol sounds weird but I bet some of you know what I mean.....

Sorry for the dumb question (I'm a computer guy trying to learn to become a car guy, so bear with me), but what does a 3 bar do for you without methanol? I thought it allowed higher boost, but it was my understanding that you needed meth to be able to run that higher boost.  Again, I'm trying to learn this stuff from reading these forums, so please feel free to school me. :D

3 bar allows the computer to read boost levels higher than 14.7 psi.
Mods that increase boost but don't allow the computer to take full advantage of the higher psi Won't do much.

Gotcha. I guess my real question is, can you run boost levels higher than 14.7 psi without methanol?

Ok, this may be redundant, but this is what im reading, and I just want to make sure im correct.

I currently have an SCT tune, with a Livernois 93 octane tune thats about a year old, maybe 14 months. With no cats, and an intake, thats it.

It sounds like I should buy a 3 bar map, 170thermostat, and then get the newest 3bar map updated tune from livernois, and I should see some performance gains, correct?

SHOdded

Plus you will need the MyCal device as well.  I don't think Livernois updates the SCT tunes anymore, but I could be wrong.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Yea im not gonna spend $600 for a mycal just to run the same tune but with a 3 bar map.

what year is your SHO ? If your tune is a year old I'm sure theres going to be significant other tuning changes other that just adding a 3bar MAP. I changed my tunes 3-4 times over the last 6 months each getting better now running the version 8 (V8) tune. Runs stronger than ever.
