Sorry for digging up a kinda old post, but I thought it better to add to this discussion that to start a new post. I've got 90 & 91 octane (also available in non ethanol) and also e85 in my area but no 93 octane. I've also got access to some 100 octane race gas but I really don't want to spend that kind of money. So what I'm trying to accomplish is run a 93 tune in my x sport by mixing with e85. I've read quite a few threads already on e85 and my head is about to explode. Input?

You can achieve higher octane by  E85 blending but LMS will not support or offer revised tunes for Blending E85.
Torrie at Unleashed will...

There are many posts by FoMoCoSHO who is getting good results by blending .

Yes, I have gotten some good results but I am out of fuel headroom. Torrie has a trick or two up his sleeve yet to be deployed but I want to make sure we've rung every ounce out of it safely before moving on to my other mods.

Check out my recent drag racing results....

IMHO.... Better off blending race gas with 91 octane to get 93-95 octane than using e85 until you have come to understand it's use and expectations... It will take a while.   No one in this thread, including me, has any real experience with running E85in the 3.5 TT GDI platform, and some have never purchased or used it. FoMoCo has a lot of experience with E30.... And he can discuss ethanol blends with you of as well as the mechanical problem of fuel delivery with high percentage ethanol blends.

Do your own homework...then find a quality controlled source of the ethanol (a second problem) ....

FoMoCoSHO is running a 30% blend of E85 .... not E30...

At one time I was running a 25% blend of E85 with 0 issues ...... with a Torrie tune.

High quality E85 is not hard to find at all these days .

Thanks for the responses guys. BigMac, I appreciate your response as well, although idk if the "Do your own homework...." Part was necessary. I clearly stated I was reading the threads on it. I actually started on Google reading various sources till i was able to see a few posts by the guys in these forums who were actually utilizing it and not just theorizing about it, and so I thought it a perfectly accepted practice of "doing my own homework" by going to the validated sources with actual knowledge and experience with it. So forgive me if I offended you by asking a question in a forum with people much more knowledgable than myself about these things. If there are people who have already done the homework and can give me the answer than even better.

Airbornemaikai. , it's obvious that you have done your "homework".

I don't believe you have offended anyone  .

There are a few other members here that are blending E85 besides myself and FoMoCoSHO .

BigMac's thoughts on blending E85 are based on him being an ardent supporter and customer of LMS  and they do not support E85 blending based on there opinions .

4DRHTRD , the owner of this site is a Hugh proponent of E85 blending .

As a precautionary note E85 blending is only suitable for the 13+  model yrs.

No offense taken here... Exchange of knowledge is what forums are for... I appreciate that you are studying the issue as well as your candor.  Sorry to offend. Just meant the post as guidance.  My thoughts are not based on any tune or tuner, nor on suppositions. Although all are entitled to express anything they like.
Again, sorry to have offended you.  Good luck in your modding and fueling.  4DR would be an excellent resource and is active in the field.

Ok so a little info so you can all know where I'm coming from. I was in the ford explorer forums ( mostly lurking since last year)and saw about 29 pages of disgruntled customers with the tunes that we're not LMS. I didn't find one negative comment on the LMS stuff. Then LMS displayed the fastest Explorer Sport, so I bought all of their equipment, from the tuner to the exhaust in April of this year (see my signature). My only gripe so far has been this; I spent $5k on all of their exclusive parts, after I got it all installed I just didn't feel like my tune was running like their claims. That and my CEL was on which I specifically asked them over the phone about before making my purchase and they informed me that would not be an issue. After a few emails I realized I was getting nowhere. I finally called theme out in the explorer forums and I finally got a response addressing my issues. Turns out they had not even given me the proper tune to account for the down pipes they had sold me, that seemed like a pretty big and obvious oversight on their part, as so far from what I've even seen, (being publicly discussed anyway) is I'm the only customer who had/has purchased their entire package from the tune, to the exhaust for the explorer sport. I've seen plenty of customers with one or the other, but not everything. Point being that's a lot of money that I just spent and it seemed like immediately after the purchase they didn't give two craps about whether or not I was even up and running. No follow up email or phone call to even make sure my stuff arrived in order. Then the wrong tune and no solution until making it public on the forums. Even now I'm saying help me achieve more power, give me ideas to get the most out of my vehicle, I'm freaking throwing money at them and they won't take it or help me. So now here I am trying to do it as much as I can on my own, with no intentions of investing that kind of money again with fear of no support afterwards. That and of course I just don't have that kind of money any longer, plus I live in the mountain west so my time to drive my truck however I want is limited to months in a year. I'm in no way knocking LMS's product, as it has certainly made my truck faster and  it now sounds how I like it, it's just their support is dismal. It seems like because I'm not mechanically inclined and can't argue exact science with them, instead of them being honest and helping educate me and informing me they just dismiss me.
All this being said I really appreciate your guys time and effort to come in here and help educate and inform me. Seems like now I will try and convince my wife to buy me the unleashed tune as from everywhere I see the customers praise Tories customer service and willingness to help each person achieve what they desire out of their vehicle. This is going to be a long journey for me, but I eventually want to have the fastest 1/4 Explorer Sport in the NW or at least be on the list. I already have the local car scene talking about "that explorer" and it brings a smile to my face, I just want more. Right now I just want to run a 93tune which will have to be accomplished by mixing fuels since my state has zero 93 octane. From what I've read the guys with the e85 mixing are having incredible results. There is only one place to buy race gas near me and that's two cities over and it's more expensive than my wife will let me justify where as I can buy e85 right down the road and 91non ethanol gas a few miles further down the same road. I do also realize it would be even more expensive to replace my vehicle so I'm playing it safe and asking questions before jumping the gun. This is why I'm in here, trying to pick people's brains who have been doing this and have on hands experience with mixing e85. I plan on finally tracking my X in October and I want to impress.

First of all I would repost this in its entirety in the LMS section.
LMS will respond and resolve your issues ...

Second  I would shoot BigMoneyCloser a PM , he a dumped a TON of money on his XSPORT and has nothing but praise form LMS ....
BMC has over 25G in mods wrapped up in his XSPORT and is a 2 time ROTM winner.

Or ..... you can contact Torrie as I am sure he would be VERY helpfull to you.
He will be more than happy to accommodate your E85 blending quest .

I will pm him. I've seen his ride, really nice mods. Any body mods I may do will have to wait though as the wife dictates a lot of what I'm allowed to do lol. So just trying to get it to drive how I want first, and figure out how to run a 93 tune. If the best method is determined to mix race gas then I'll just have to face the music and wait since I can't justify the expense of the gas, plus the expense of traveling to acquire it. The race gas and the track alone are about 35miles apart in itself. This is going to be my long term project, someday I'll get something else but this is the one I'm going to keep and invest in over the years. I wish I still had mass amounts of money to drop on my vehicle because it seems any company these days are more willing to work with you when they know you're going to drop money over and over I and on top of that pretty much advertise for them. Honestly just frustrating that my state got rid of 93 octane a few years ago and the race gas company knows it so they just charge whatever they want, more than surrounding states. Actually Idaho is constantly one of the most expensive gas states, I have family in California and we are literally penny for penny with them most of the year, meanwhile our next door neighbor, Utah, is anywhere from 15-40 cents cheaper.

Is your 91 straight gas or 10% ethanol?
