VERY confused here about the LIVERNOIS tune for my 2013 Taurus SHO

First off, hello everyone, I'm new here and pretty much new to all of the computer tuning stuff. I have owned race cars for many years, and still do, but I just bought a 2013 Taurus SHO w/PP,for my daily driver, and I wont lie, I'm confused...LOL

1st thing.... I  can't talk to anyone at livernois till Monday , I ordered stages 123. And 4 and 4+ and, Friday I received the mycal8o tuner (blank), and sent in all my info. Saturday he sent me a email for 91 and 93 perf tunes. Then 5 minutes  after that he sent me A email saying sorry. For the delay, my files were sent to the server and it would take 24-48 business hours to get them. So I really did not understand that. Are the 91-93 tunes all I get. Or are stages 1234 and 4+ the same. I def confused. Lol.

With that said. I loaded the 93 tune (all I run is 93 in the car) and did notice a difference (not a huge difference) in performance, but I noticed going  from 1st to second I get a pretty good chatter from the drive-train, I assume that's the tires breaking loose and the traction control kicking on??? and even though I have the shifter in sports mode at WOT, it still shifts by itself before I shift it on the steering wheel, is that right?

Sorry guy's, one more thing...  I would say between 4800 to 5000 the car starts to hesitate at WOT(like it runs lean or something) then stops when it shifts, and comes back again when I get up to the RPM, it almost feels like it hits a chip or something, or goes lean.

This thread should help you with the questions you are facing.  There are different stages, then you choose the fuel used for that stage; so basically a two-part option on the tune.  I am assuming the correct strategy code was found and sent to LMS for the tunes.

Now that you have loaded a tune (not sure which stage, tho for 93 octane fuel), you have to ensure your systems are in tip-top shape.  Meaning, make sure your spark plugs are gapped properly (they seem to vary all over the place from factory), there are no oil leaks (turbos), no existing drivetrain problems, etc.  You may also need to run spark plugs a range colder, but definitely check the gapping first (0.030 I believe).

The systems in the SHO are pretty seamless, in the sense that the "nanny" kicks in smoothly (if the mechanicals are in order) to restrict power to what the drivetrain can handle without losing traction.  So you will feel a throttle kickdown and bogging, for example, if the drivetrain is overwhelmed.  That may be what is happening at the 5000 rpm point, definitely at the 6500 rpm point.  To get max acceleration, you would launch around 2000 rpm, and if manually shifting, shift around 6000 rpm.

You do sound like you are getting pretty good wheel hop, so I would stay off the throttle for now, till you can talk it over with LMS.  I would also return the vehicle to stock.  Not sure what 91/93 tunes you received.  Did the strategy codes match?
2007 Ford Edge SEL, Powerstop F/R Brake Kit, TXT LED 6000K Lo & Hi Beams, W16W LED Reverse Bulbs, 3BSpec 2.5w Map Lights, 5W Cree rear dome lights, 5W Cree cargo light, DTBL LED Taillights

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

There are no stages for the 2013 SHO with LMS.  Only 91 and 93 octane tune.

To help answer your question on the shifting. This may be what is going on - The transmission has adaptive shifting so it learns how you drive and shifts slightly smoother or firmer. When you load a new then the adaptive shift gets wiped clean. First time I put a tune on my 2013 the first handful of WOT 1-2 shifts were VERY hard. In fact the very first was borderline violent. They eased up and are fine after that.

I contacted Livernois today about my 2010 SHO tune (getting ready to send my vehicle data) and the tech stated that the tunes are now just 91/93 octane as stated above for the 2013's.Any thoughts/comments on this?

I heard that hardly anybody was using the "lower" tunes so they just have the top tunes now. If they went to that for the 10-12, must be the same story.  Probably a 4+ 91 and 93.  I'd get both in case you are in or travel to an area that only has 91.

Like DJ said.... Also remember that octane ratings can vary ± 2points....... with regular unleaded I'm thinking why tune and know that I'd be running 85 octane sometimes!

The 4+ tunes on the 2010 seem to be very stable and safe based on forum feedback... hopefully others will chime in.

The manual gives a procedure for resetting the adaptive drive after a battery has died or changed. Does that mean this procedure should be done after loading a tune, and still followed while using tune? 2010 SHO here.

It was always my understanding, that when loading in a new tune file, part of the mere act of doing that, it automatically resets the "learned" protocols.

As such, it would take some period of driving time, to re-learn those, as per each person's own driving habits.

Same here.

Seems it would have to since it overwrites the ECU memory and command string.

OP hasn't posted on this thread since 11/10.  Wonder if he got his problem sorted out?  Sounds like the CW tune is what is needed.
