SHO intake

So all the info on this forum about intakes, at least for the SHO, clearly states that there is no good aftermarket intake option out there. Unless I go with a custom built CAI, the general consensus is just drop in a K&N and go. After seeing how filthy my motorcraft paper filter was after only 4k miles, I'm gonna go with the K&N. Is this a lifetime filter?  If so, how do you clean it?  If not, how often do you change it?  Where the cheapest place to buy it from?
Thanks.

I was wondering how long it would take someone to catch that.

So I bought the drop in K&N filter for my 2014 SHO. Went on a 400 mile trip. Honestly didn't notice any performance difference or increased fuel economy. And I really couldn't notice any sound change either. Its just hard for me to believe that something like an Air aid CAI wouldn't be more beneficial. Even on the box the K&N filter came with it shows that a cone filter would have significantly higher cfm's compared to the square filter. Just my two cents but I would love for someone to explain to me why I am wrong. Only had my SHO for two weeks now.

The general consensus is that the Airraid will increase HP but being more open and not completely sealed the IAT's are significantly higher. And the turbos hate hot air. It seems a good number of people have removed their Airraids. If you like the look it's probably worth it. Personally I'm gonna drop in a K&N filter and maybe someday install a K&N intake if I (or anyone else) figures out how to properly seal it so the air temps are cooler than stock. Seems to me like Ford did too good a job on the stock intake. As far as sound, I haven't personally heard any of the aftermarket intakes, but it's based on everyone's opinion. What's loud to someone else might not be loud to you, etc, ect. Good luck with the new SHO.

How long have you had your SHO, Skibbidy?  Can't be many miles on it, since it's a '14.  So the SHO's still breaking in, probably too early to tell any mpg differences.  Performance difference, that's a rather complicated story.  The filter may flow better, but the stock system flows pretty well already.  Exhaust upgrades are needed to take advantage of the air filter/intake upgrade, and show perceptible gains seat-of-pants or on a dyno.  K&N's numbers are "generalized", I'd be surprised if they have SHO-specific numbers.

Let me ask you this then. I emailed lms about getting a tune. And they said I would definitely want an intake before I get a tune. For those of you that have a tune, will the drop in filter be sufficient or is there a good cai on the market yet?

Only 1000 miles on my SHO. And honestly my first car with a turbo and first performance car I've ever owned. So everything is new and fresh for me.
