SHO intake

The biggest problem with CAI's is don't sealing off the heat from engine compartment. I am sure at some point a larger filter is needed, but for the most part CAI's don't offer any gains at all. Just noise and visual fluff. With said I am very happy with my Airaid CAI looks like it supposed to be there and for myself I typically see a degree or two below ambient at a cruise. Of course at idle it rises but so does everything else.

You don't need an intake.  I have 6K on a tune and K&N panel. Runs great!

Do you have any exhaust set up at all? I've been looking at the stainless works exhaust system. Just worried about warranty issues since its a brand new vehicle.

I have a stock exhaust.  If you are worried about warranty, don't tune.  Enjoying the benefits of a tune will cause warranty problems if Ford determines your tune is related to a problem.  On the other hand I would venture to say that most guys on here took that chance.  I tuned at 800 miles and I feel it was worth taking that chance.

Let me ask you this then. I emailed lms about getting a tune. And they said I would definitely want an intake before I get a tune. For those of you that have a tune, will the drop in filter be sufficient or is there a good cai on the market yet?

Lol.  You can run a tune without any aftermarket intake.  They are trying to sell you MORE parts...

Okay I wasn't sure if it was just them trying to sell me more stuff, or if there was a big advantage to having increased airflow before/during the tuning process.

How many miles do you have on your car now? And which tuner did you end up with? Any idea if there is an 89 octane tune or just 87/91/93.

I turned 6K today.  But there is a thread where guys have thousands and thousands on their tunes.  I use Livernois but some of the guys use Unleashed.  Both have great recommendations.  There are a lot of tuning threads.  You'll have to read them and decide which is more suited to you.  You may be be able to get other Octane tunes but I only use 93 and have a 91 for back up.

I only put in a drop in K&N and have run a 93 octane tune for about 11K miles so far.  Only other thing I did was re-gap spark plugs to .030 for the high boost and added a 170 degree thermostat.

I just went back to stock intake with a K&N drop in. I'll be dynoing with downpipes and upgraded turbos soon. We shall see if it becomes a restriction.

So I bought the drop in K&N filter for my 2014 SHO. Went on a 400 mile trip. Honestly didn't notice any performance difference or increased fuel economy. And I really couldn't notice any sound change either. Its just hard for me to believe that something like an Air aid CAI wouldn't be more beneficial. Even on the box the K&N filter came with it shows that a cone filter would have significantly higher cfm's compared to the square filter. Just my two cents but I would love for someone to explain to me why I am wrong. Only had my SHO for two weeks now.

The general consensus is that the Airraid will increase HP but being more open and not completely sealed the IAT's are significantly higher. And the turbos hate hot air. It seems a good number of people have removed their Airraids. If you like the look it's probably worth it. Personally I'm gonna drop in a K&N filter and maybe someday install a K&N intake if I (or anyone else) figures out how to properly seal it so the air temps are cooler than stock. Seems to me like Ford did too good a job on the stock intake. As far as sound, I haven't personally heard any of the aftermarket intakes, but it's based on everyone's opinion. What's loud to someone else might not be loud to you, etc, ect. Good luck with the new SHO.

It's not just the open element that causes the problem, that metal pipe gets damn hot!

Yup, the metal pipe does make matters worse. I am leaning toward purchasing hot pipes from ecoboost power parts and a drop in K&N filter. As for looks, I have a couple ideas floating in my head for the stock air box. It remains to be seen if these ideas are possible or not too costly.

Okay so help me with this one since I am new to all this. What exactly will a new t-stat do to help? And how can you change your spark plug gap? Or are there just some plugs you can buy with the different gap.

Can't wait to see the results on that. Keep us posted.

1. You don't need an intake to get a tune.

2. I got my tune, then got an intake, contacted LMS (at that time "Rick") and was told I don't need to change anything even though I added a CAI after the tune.

3. I had an Airaid and took it out because it neither improved the sound much nor gave me more percieved power.

4. I also have a K&N drop in - don't really notice much difference in or out.

5. I currently have a K&N CAI in there.  Best sound of everything else, power gain is speculative.  If you want BOV sound and your engine to sound like its trying to suck the air out of the universe (I stole this quote), you will like the K&N CAI.
