Maybe my engine was weak but I bet the cold weather KR bug livernoise fixed in v10 sped up the failure when I was having the issue while running v8.

I'm pretty sure my issue was the PPE pipes. I had a rough vibration with foot on brake after shifting to reverse. End of the day my front pipe (the longer one) is butted up against the rear Trans mount. There's pics and a convo in another thread. But I think that's the culprit for the shaking I felt. I noticed u have PPE pipes in ur sig.. perhaps at least worth a look

Hey guys,
Took it into the dealer. Cylinder #2 piston ring cracked + scoring on the cylinder wall. Here is the kicker, they want $960 for motor teardown if Ford denies the warranty claim. Then I have to also tow the car out and they hand me a box of parts and a motor. What would you guys do?

Did you remove all parts and take it in in factory condition?  ie. stock downpipes, 2 bar map, stock tune, etc

I dont think Ford will deny the warranty claim, but FoMoCoSHO may have better insight.  Known incidences of block cracking and throwing a rod and still covered.  Did you return car to stock tune wise before taking to dealer?

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

yes all factory except my catback + ~200 miles after stock flash to get all the monitors nice and ready.

I would be very surprised if you run into any trouble.

My limited understanding is that they can still tell with a deep scan of the ECU, but that isn't likely to happen without something major telling them to research further.

Small update, they finally started the teardown. Arsehats were giving me crap that I had a PP transmission cooler installed. The battle is in full force.

Yeah, giving you crap for what should've come with the car in the first place, nice!  Where's the Eye of Thunderra when you need it!

I don't think the cooler will be any sort of an issue.

I wouldn't take any crap about it either...it's not a performance part, as long as its installed correctly and I assume its Ford parts and not leaking so good luck connecting a longevity upgrade with an engine failure.

As long as you don't have any obvious parts and your tuner doesn't wipe your ignition count they will have no reason to look further.

Heard lots of stories about this supposed "deep scan" but I'm highly skeptical that it exists.

None of the techs I know have any knowledge of such a scan FYI, and the Mrs has never heard of such a thing either.

She's deals with warranty daily on the service side and has warranty experience on the admin side as well.

Good luck and keep us updated.

I've had a dealer ask me if I was using a tuner after certain problems. I just denied and they kept doing a few grand of warranty work. Funny enough that dealers on SCT's Unauthorized Sellers list.

I Doubt there's any such thing as a deep ECU scan considering ALL stock data is written over and then replaced, I think a rom from the ECU would have to be taken to a lab and at that point the cost would be too great to deny some warranty claims..

Ford didn't look too hard at my ECU after 3 Trans failures and my lemon law case. I wanted to believe that maybe the tune caused the trans failure, but from day 1 the car had 1-2 shift glitches and erratic and incorrect shifts without a tune. Torrie did a awesome job trying to mitigate the problems with the trans but the tune ended up causing the issues to be more apparent on a lemon transmission.

I would challenge anyone to install this thing as well as I did. Just like most of you guys, there is a high degree of passion that goes into working on my car and it absolutely boils my blood when a suit wearing service advisor tries to talk down to me.

Agreed :)  But they gotta look and sound authoritative, that's part of the job.
