Hi guys
Just joined the forum to look for info on a changing the PTU oil in my 08 MKX with 140K kms. Found good info and decided to bite the bullet and install a drain plug - and wrote about it in an existing post. This is a great place to learn about problems others are having and to learn how to fix those issues without going to a deal and bending over LOL.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

LOL A$$ puckering doesn't begin to describe the feeling of drilling into a PTU! The dealer said it was about $2200 to replace if it needed it. Getting the PTU drain hole done is one of those things I'm glad is over! Hopefully the PTU will last forever now that it is feeling new oil!
Great to have a resource to see where others have boldly gone before!

Usually the Lincolns suffer less from the PTU issue, and I hope this is the case with your MKX as well.  But yeah, that replacement cost in CAD, sure to make your eyes POP :D

And IIRC, the fill plug is magnetic, so as long as you didn't overwhelm the PTU with metal shavings during the "procedure", it should catch most of them very quickly.

The drain hole was drilled through the aluminum casing - so the magnetic drain plug won't catch any left over shavings from that procedure because aluminum isn't magnetic - unless there is some steel in the aluminum but I have never heard of that. I should see if the drain plug sticks to the case when I take it out next time. What the drain will catch is gear and bearing part deterioration I think since those parts are steel. Hopefully when I used the Q-tip to clean the inside area around the hole, I was thorough. Also - perhaps since the hole is at the bottom, any left over shavings will stay there. All good so far.
