A month or so ago, I had PPE catted downpipes installed on my XSport, and I've been very happy with them. The exhaust shop that installed them did not give me my stock downpipes, and I didn't think to ask. This past Sunday, I installed the Livernois/Corsa Thunderstorm catback system, and the result was terrible. Startup & idle had a nice rumble, but anything over 2000 rpm was loud and super raspy. If you've ever seen the "Rasp from Hell" video on YouTube (SHO w/Stainless Works downpipes & Livernois catback), mine sounded similar. It was like a crappy Civic with a fart can.
I called Livernois, and the guy I spoke with pointed the blame on the PPE downpipes, saying that was the source of the resonation. Livernois claims that their catback is compatible with the stock downpipes (which I no longer have) & their own custom downpipes.
So what to do now? I already ordered 2 Vibrant 1793 resonators ($72 each from Summit), that I had planned to have welded in, but now I'm skeptical that they will be effective in taming the rasp. Last night, I removed the Livernois catback, and put my stock back on; fortunately I still had that. Should I sell the Livernois catback, and leave the stock system? Should I weld in the resonators, see if it helps? Should I cough up another $800 for the Livernois downpipes, with the hopes that they will be better? Opinions appreciated.
