Hi guys,
Reaching out to see if anyone here has experienced/gone through the power steering recall and what symptoms they experienced/felt in the steering. From what I gather from reading up on it, the issue can either throw a code or not, and the dealer will either replace the steering gear or update the PSCM depending how they diagnose the cause.
This is what I'm experiencing: intermittent power steering loss at various speeds, turning angles, rate of how slow or fast I turn the wheel...in short random kicking in & out of assist making the car...ahem...unpredictable in terms of steering effort. I can come to a stop, make a 90-degree turn with my fingers sometimes, other times it takes both hands...and sometimes I'll regain or lose it in the middle of that turn which pretty much makes me look like a drunk. Same goes true for something as simple as a lane change. And all of this out of the blue... it just started on Monday and has been this way ever since.
My thinking so far is this: ball joints are fine so likely no binding there. No noise whatsoever when turning the wheel and car still tracks fine, no slop, so not thinking rack. Strut mounts seem ok, so will eliminate that as well.
Which leads me to my problem...I'm thinking this might be a result of the recall issue...BUT my car is a '10, which is not stated in the recall...only 2011 forward. So, what do you think the odds are of me jumping onto this recall? Am I barking up the wrong tree and it's something completely different? Any help/advice is greatly appreciated.
