Looking for some info from somebody that has done it or knows for sure.

How hard is it to change the HID bulbs on a 2013 SHO? I've been told I would have to remove the front fascia.
I would like to upgrade from the factory 42/4300k to 6k's.

Thanks

No mention in the FSM of having to pull fascia to replace bulbs.  2011taurussel has recently changed the bulbs on his 2014, hope he chimes in soon.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Here's a link to the install of my vled switchbacks.... I know you're looking for headlights and not turns.... But it may give you some idea of access. Think you can do it without dropping the front bumper (see bad Mike's thread on doing that if necessary). The passenger side is tight but removal of the IC to TB pipe would be easier than the bumper.  BTW my '13 came with HIDs.  Anyway, here's the link. hope it helps.

My SHO came with HID also I just want to change the color. I prefer the 6k over the OEM.

You actually lose a little visibility going to a 6000k.  Peak visibility is 4300k-5000k...

I understand that. I have 6k's in my other car. In my opinion 6k's reflect off the street signs better and the lines on the road. Also I just don't like the yellow look of the 4300's.

For anybody wanting to do this I will say this now it is a major PITA.

Getting the power cable off the ballast is a trick. You have to remove it first before you even touch the bulb as you will need all the leverage you can get.

Having small hands and wrist are a big plus. A 8yo kid would be about the right size.

Driver side you need to remove air box which is the easiest part of the whole thing.

It took me about an hour and I had both in but with one big problem. The light fixture on the driver side broke when I turned it to tight. At first I thought I didn't have it in the socket but later realized the ballast had broken away from the bulb and now I have a bulb only in the lens and have to take the car to the dealership to see if they can remove the lens and get the bulb out. I ordered a new bulb so I'll have them install it when the get it out.

$420 to fix everything. No parts needed. $140/hr labor
Add in Tranny flush and my day out the door was $653. ugh!

They also said I need new rear pads and rotors. 1-2mm left on pads. Another $450 when I have that done.
Is it me or is there no such thing as being able to turn rotors anymore. The OEM are thin from the beginning. I guess every ounce they cut the get better MPG ratings.

Bring it in to Ford and rotors will get milled down to nothingness.  It's usually the pads that need changing anyway, to aftermarket.  And ceramics are hard on rotors unless the rotors are high-carbon material.  But for what the OEM parts cost is, pretty good value, I'd think.

I haven't had a rotor turned it probably 15 years.  I just buy new rotors with every pad change.  Plus...find a place that will turn them anymore.

True.... They have largely gone the way of shaving the tires to make sure they are round

You sound like a Service Writer. They also wanted me to do a Fuel System Flush. To do all 3 it would cost $750.
In no way am I doing the flush, not at $149. I run top tier gas and SeaFoam through my system every 6 months or so.
