Quick question, before I add this tune should I make sure I have the newest ecu firmware from ford? Or does the tune completely overwrite the ford?

The tune overwrites the stock.... But you should make sure you have the latest Ford update so that you have a copy of the stock OEM tune.

It looks like you have an SCT which to my knowledge should require you to send the new / updated codes to your calibrator to have the tunes built specifically for that version.  If you have tunes already for your vehicle,  but then have an update that changes you to a newer factory calibration, you may want to make your calibrator aware of this before loading tunes for an older stock / base file.

We tell our customers to let us know if they have any updates done when going in for service,  to double check their Strategy / SW Part ID afterwards.  This way if they have a newer strategy we can update their files to match.

We also update all of our tuned customers to the latest and greatest factory Strategy and Software Part ID codes available at that time.  We are able to do this because we actually load the stock tune to the device for them instead of it making a copy like most other devices would.  This is something that not many people are aware of that we offer as an additional benefit / feature of our calibration.  This way if the customer has an outdated stock tune when they request tuning, we update them automatically to keep everything current and then build our tunes upon that updated factory calibration.

It is an sct. I'm actually sitting get on the front porch waiting for the ups man to bering it to me.  I have no clue if this thing has ever had an update and it is a early 2010. Should I go give for the 100 dollars to update before I plug this tuner in?

What's the 100 bucks for?

Ford will update the strategy for you for free...Then just call your tuner or sct or wherever you got the tuner from and they can quickly update the tune

What is your strategy?

Just saw you have unleashed in your sig......Read the strategy with your device then email torrie asking what the latest update is for that strategy and If it needs updated most likely you will have the latest ford strategy with your tune in 5 minutes

I don't know my strategy I'm waiting in this stupid 11 to 3 window when my tuner will be delivered by ups since I missed it Saturday. My local ford when I called said it will be 100 dollars for the service fee to update it. I am out of warranty

That sounds shady....Often there are emission items updated in the tune and they are required to do it.....I wouldn't believe that.....it takes 3 minutes....If you went in for new wipers they would update the strategy and likely not even tell you.....Ask them what the 100 is for? Tell them an ECU update with IDS takes 3 minutes

I will try they have been pretty unhelpful so far. They refused to change my ptu altogether even with me paying in cash they simply kept stating sealed for life. Now the buick dealer I bought it from will do anything I ask them to, especially if I can show them how to do it.

Ford dealers man ... much as I don't want to think it, SMH.  But don't give up, it's important to find a good dealership, even if it's a little further away.  And if you can't find a Ford dealership, look for a standalone Lincoln dealership (much rarer unfortunately, but can be found).  My Ford dealership isn't the best, but generally they are pretty courteous with diagnostic fees & such, I have to give them that.  Never had to ask them for a calibration update, so don't know what their response would be, but I am sure the charge would be minimal, especially if I brought it in for another service and simply asked them to check if it was up to date.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

plug the device in and before you tune read the strategy and post it...I'll let you know the latest strategy for your car....2010 right?

Or look at the ECU and find the part number and or hardware number

As easy as ajp's offer sounds, I'd wait and read the strategy code from your car via the tuning device when it arrives. There is some indication that Ford changes this depending on the car.

Well I'm trying and can't get past the turn ignition to the one position. I am apparently slow after waiting all day but how do you do this again? I thought accessory  (button push without brake) was it but no

Push buttom twice no brake is on...just like a car with key...position 1 is accessory and 2 is on but not started

To get to the "run" position on a 2010, you need to hold the button in until the gauges sweep.  Mine takes between 5 and 10 seconds.  AJ, I  think pressing it twice only applies to the later models.  If I press my 2010 twice, it just goes to accessory mode and then off again.
