Who was guy on here that replaced his factory HID bulb with a different one?

Is our system 35W or 50W?

I'm sure it's 35 watt.  I can't remember which number bulb is required...I think it's a D3 something.

I'm curious if moving from 43k to 5k is worth it -- I think that's what the guy did--just can't for life of me remember who it was.

I have heard that if you use 55W bulbs (relay/harness recommended) with 5K temps, you get a nice bright white light.  If staying with 35W, 4.3K is good.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

That's what I figured. I'm good where I am.

Sent from a mobile, I think.

I swapped out the bulbs. They are D3S 35W and I put in 6000k temp. The stock are 4300k and yellowish. If I could I would move them up to 55w, but I do not know how to replace the ballasts. Be ready to rip up your wrists swapping them out its so tight in there! The proper way is removing the whole bumper but you can manipulate them in and out. I use DDM Tuning, but you can get them on Ebay also. They are cheap enough that you should get a spare in case one goes out, mine did.

The light is alot whiter, and to me brighter. The road paint, signs etc have a higher reflective rate with the 6000k. Here are two pics on a blacked out road.

Hmm; damn -- another mod.

Was it a direct swap in terms of connectors? No need to modify anything?

Yes. Pull the connector out first, then half a turn they come right out.

Describe what color the projector beams lenses are when you are looking at the front of your car with these bulbs. Could you post a couple photos of that also? I put some bi-xenon 6000k HIDs in my 2003 Cobra and I loved them. They would light the reflectors up on a police cruiser from a mile away.  ^-^ I think this will be my next mod. Looks Good!

In Canada the SHO came with halogen bulb. I swapped them out for 55W 4300K HID. The problem is the focal point of the projectors is different form HID to halogen so I ended up with an rainbow of color from blue to white. Still better lighting than stock but I might invest in some projectors and lens and retrofit the headlghts in the future.

All North American head lamp housings have a blind spot on the left side so the lights don't blind oncoming traffic when you are on a two lane road. In japan the blind spot is on the opposite side of the car. When I put the HID kit in my 03 Cobra I had a similar blind area on the left side of my light beam. I guess there may also be a difference with regards to the halogen vs. HID bulb placement inside the housing that could possibly make the blind spot more pronounced. Regardless, they look good and I think I'm going to go with some 5000K D3S bulbs. Does anyone have any thoughts about 5000k vs. 6000K for light output vs. light color?

I'm not so sure you would notice much difference going from the stock 4300 to the 5000 bulb....I think the 6000 will be more noticeable change.

On 35W:
4300K - crystal white (very little yellowish, all OEM)
5000K - Pure white
6000K - Crystal white (very little blueish)
8000K - blue

On 50-55W it will slip a bit lower side, like -400k

Edit: found a nice graph that compares. 55W will always be a bit whiter than 35W.
