I have a friend with a 2014 Explorer.  He backed out of his garage this morning and he says this fell off the bottom of his car.  It is foam rubber.  Any idea what it is or where it came from?

Thats very odd,do you have the dimensions?? Do the Explorers have a bottom belly cover?? If so it could be from the insulated covers from under.  Z

4 inches wide/2 1/2 inches tall/1/2 inch thick.  It sort of looks the shape of a brake pad.

Could it somehow helped keep fuel and/or brake lines from vibrating on the underside of the car. Those scallops look like they could match up with plumbing so to speak...

Good observation!  I think I have seen this before and it might be to prevent rattles/vibration of plumbing.  Trans cooling lines going to the radiator maybe....

It just hit me now,it could be the insulation between the radiator and CAC.  Z

Z, you might be onto something.  I haven't seen this piece, myself, but I will be visiting the guy whose Explorer dropped this and I will check it out.  Thanks.  Any other ideas are welcome!

Yes, he did have a routine oil/filter change done at a dealership recently.
