Is it ok to drill here?

I'm trying to put my new subwoofers in. They fit perfectly on the little shelf in the back of the trunk right behind the back seats. I tried to use double sided tape but it just kept pulling the carped out of place every time I floored it. I just want to know if it is ok to put 2 or 3 screws in that area of the trunk to hold my subwoofers down, definitely don't want to put a hole in the gas tank lol. I pulled out some of the rubber stoppers when I was putting the carpet back in place, didn't see any gas tank around, just want to make sure. Last thing I need is my car to explode.

Would not drill in that area, personally would get a couple of bungee cords real cheap from harbor freights and tie them across the front of the box to hold it in place, they have the heavy duty version so it prevents it from moving, good luck.

where would I hook the bungees though? Like this idea better then welding because I like to gable to easily remove it if I need to fold the seats down and put something big in the trunk.

There's a small lip of metal that comes down from the top, right about the back window area. Could you drill into that and then use those closed circle screws in back of speaker box.

(Like this but closed as a circle)

Then maybe some chain connected with those other rock climbing style rope hooks.

What about velcro? Not sure if it would get enough 'bite' on the trunk carpeting. If that would work, just use gratuitous amounts of it, staple it to the bottom of the sub box, and stick it down. I have a 12" Type R in a sealed by, weighs about 30-40 lbs. I have it sitting down in the recessed area, and it never moves...guess weight alone keeps it in place.
