So yesterday a group of us took a party bus around Metro Detroit and did some major go karting. We had 10 of us on the bus all day and at 2 of the tracks we had 2 others join us. We started the day in Clio at Extreme Karting with a 12 lap qualifier followed up with a 45 minute race. These karts ran about 40 mph on a 1/4 mile long road course. We got over 80 laps in the 45 minutes. Then we went to JD Karting in Novi. These were electric karts that do about 35 mph and the track was just a little shoter. We did a 10 lap qualifying and then a 16 lap race. Then off to Kart 2 Kart in Sterling Heights. Back to gas and again about 35 mph on a 1/4 mile long road course. There we did 16 lap practice, 16 lap qualifying and a 16 lap race. All 3 races were done with a staggered grid standing start. I figured we did about 40 miles on karts for the day.
It was a long day starting in Ann Arbor at 9:45 and getting back to our cars around 9:00 but it was a blast. The group of guys I went with all road race cars at DE events during the summer. A couple of them are driving instructors and do some endurance racing and they are all on a weekly karting league at JD Karting together. It was a tough crowd and they turned fast times all day.
We all agreed that next time we will skip the bus to speed up travel between tracks and probably cut it to 2 tracks instead of 3.
Here is a link to a YouTube video from one guys Go Pro. This was the 45 minute race but his Go Pro died about 35 minutes in.
