Went out to start the 12 SHO I have and no start. Wouldn't turn over and had to jump start it. Have 35k on it and looks like the battery is the issue. Put it on the charger when I got home and battery voltage is low and it seems not to want to take a charge. Starts ok with a jump and it's going into the dealer today. Guess I got a bum battery because all my other motorcraft batteries have lasted many many years...

Batteries exposed to extreme heat/cold nowadays are lucky to last 2-3 years.  Frankly don't seem to have the CCA ratings they should from the factory to deal with all the electronics either.

I would get a Tough Max installed at the dealer.  Higher capacity + 8plus year warranty

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

The original battery in my 2011 died last yeast in a very similar fashion.  Unfortunately it refused to start for me when I was trying to leave work.  Only 12k miles on the odometer at the time.

Ever since my wife's 2002 Lincoln LS I've decided a typical car battery in a highly featured car is only good for 3 years.  Her LS would at least act up for several days before the battery just plain died though.

I had a problem with my battery as well. Was having trouble starting. Ford replaced it under warranty, with a 39 month battery. Like others have said, with all those electronics I decided to get a new battery. I got an Interstate MTP-65 850 CCA. Voltage has been 14+ and have had no issues starting. Even during the polar vortex last winter.

I recall my 2011 SHO battery dying in Dec of 2013. Motorcraft batteries just don't seem to cut it any more.  :disgust:

I wonder if mine is on the way out.  It takes a long second to start up, longer than other cars I've owned.  Car was built in 10/2012 and lived it's first 1.5 years in Dallas.

M y SHO was built on 11/12 and before my trip a few weeks ago took those two top covers off of the battery and added about half a cup of distilled water, was pretty surprised it took that much.

Replaced the battery in my '12 last month.  Mine didn't die, it had small crack around the negative side causing corrosion.  Got a slightly bigger CCA from battery dealer we always got for batteries for the big truck and tractors.  Got a Deka.

Interesting that a few members have posted about cracks.  My battery cracked around the neg terminal also.  Found it odd.  Caused some corrosion that I cleaned up.  I took a couple pics, also with the code stamp, thinking I might send to Ford.  Maybe I'm naïve, but I'm not used to seeing battery cases cracking.  Granted this is a small sampling, but seems to be common with the factory battery.  Odd..

Future: Tune, 3-bar, new plugs.  Catted DP and exhaust someday.

Other brands have also had the cases crack.  Could be from exposure to extreme weather or overtightened terminals.  Best to coat the terminals with anti-corrosion grease, works very well.

Yeah Ford replaced it under warranty with a 650 cca with a tough max.  35k and about 3 years on the old one
