Wonder what will be said? As of now the product we were sold with claims of improvement have been debunked. Almost a false advertising type deal huh?

Was it even ever tested?

Has anybody emailed this thread to airaid?

I did today.
Awesome, cause I wont purchase one until they fix the issue. I'm not going to buy something I have to modify to make work correctly.

I'd be even happier if they punched a whole in the side of the box and added a flex pipe to go into the wheel well. I'd also understand a higher price if they did that.

I thoroughly plan on dynoing the typhoon so I can invoke their performance guarantee. A $212.00  paperweight is unacceptable.

I completely agree, I will also be contacting K&N. You don't really need a dyno to prove it. The track results from my previous tests prove that it doesn't work. The stock box makes more power period. To Airaid's credit it was a sound design. I made it work really well with $10 worth of added "stuff". Let's take a look at what I had to do to the K&N to make it work almost as well as the stock box. I built an extension to the heat shield. Cost was $50.00 plus my time to fab and test it. I was quoted $100.00 to get it ceramic coated to try to stave off the terrible heat soak from that stupid aluminum pipe. The angle and placement of the filter made it almost impossible to build a completely sealed enclosure. So paper weight it is....

I am not entirely sure that an additional air source is necessary. The OE location is in front of the AC and rad. Can't get cooler than that. I also believe that the opening is sufficient for at least my mod level. Now Mikes ride will need more air at 600hp.

And lastly Airaid is supposed to Send me a new weatherstrip that is taller. I am doubtful that it will perform as well as my design. Rubber isn't nearly as flexible as the foam that I used. Creating a nearly perfect seal. But hey you never know. I'll report back on that one once I get the new strip.

I'm sure it was on a dyno with the hood up, I just wouldn't recommend driving at the track with your hood propped open like that. It may lead to an unfortunate situation. ;)

Well how's this for quick. Didn't do anything with the seal yet as I am at my vacation property. And I would like to find a seal that's more automotive type gasket material if possible. But I got the insulating done. Haven't driven since installing, cause like I said I am at my vacation property usually don't do much driving when we are here. But should have some results soon when I drive back home.

When looking for your new weatherstrip, keep in mind that in some places the gap is over 1.5 inches. I have a total of 1 and 3/4 inches with the D style which is 3/4 inch and the foam at 1 inch.

Wow I wish I would have known this earlier. As I may raise the over all height of the tub. By welding some more abs plastic to it. Well if that even would work, seen a video on welding plastic. Looks pretty simple. But I know this mod works, cause my drive here is 3 1/2 hrs and while cruising on freeway for that long under hood temps stay ambient or below. And would explain when I flat foot the car accelerates crazy fast! No keep in mind I have a heavy foot and no stranger to speed. But I tell you it's a notable difference in the performance. To make you say holy hell!!! That's fast!!! Hope to get to the track soon and clock the differences. Heck I am think of stripping the interior to set and new low for myself. Lol!

And we thought this guy's car was fast. I see it's just natural to be fast in crash land.

Good November temps and I'm thinking 11's!!!!

Was out testing my Airaid cover yesterday and am seeing great results as well!  I sealed off the front of my lid as there was still a small gap there.  I also did some testing with my second air source to the box and I have to say it seems to stay/get cooler faster with the secondary air source capped off.  I had cut a 3" hole with a PVC connection out to flexible insulated duct and fed it in to the fender area.  I was thinking more air would be beneficial but honestly the temps seem steadier with that capped off and just getting the air from the front opening where both the stock and Airaid get it from.  So unless you need the extra air or have a better way of getting cooler air in to the box I would just stick with that.  I noticed no difference in performance with the secondary air source capped off.

Thanks for the report! I was thinking of adding the secondary air source too. This just confirms that we don't really need it. You should give the cool box a try. It really helps keep the temps down at both slower stop and go and high speed runs.

On a side note I did get the taller weatherstrip from Airaid today. I am doubtful that it will work as well as my design. But I will give it a try and report back.

That is next up on the list!  You used the Reflectix from Home Depot correct?  I went to the local store yesterday and the only thing they had was thermoking which would probably work but in the past I've used it and the adhesive doesn't seem to stick all that well.  I assume yours is holding up without issue?  I may try and grab some off the Internet and go from there.
