Hey everyone!  I'm a new SHO guy, not really that new to the forums, but I just haven't had the time to really post anything since I've become a member here.  A little history about me, I've had a number of decent cars in the past.  My first tuner car was a 1995 Nissan 240SX SE, in which I opted to keep the 2.4 liter DOHC iron block engine and turbo it instead of swapping it with the Silvia engine that most people chose to do.  Back then, there weren't many parts for it and I kept blowing the head gasket on it.  Needless to say, it got too expensive to upkeep and I ended up getting a 2003 Audi A4 Quattro 1.8T.  It had minor mods on it.  An APR tune, intake, exhaust and suspension.  It was nice, but I ended up getting a 2007 350Z HR which was nice.  I really enjoyed that car, but I needed something that could haul more than 2 people, so I picked up a 2010 Mitsubishi Evo X.  I had almost every bolt on available for that car without changing turbos or internals.  I can say it is probably the closest I could ever get to a race car that was legal for the road.  Keep in mind that I had these cars one by one.  I don't still have all of them, unfortunately.  Anyhow, the time came up recently that I could get a new car to use personally and for my job.  Only certain cars were approved for me to use for my job and so the obvious choice was the Ford Taurus SHO.  So here I am.  There were no PP available and I needed to pick up a car soon after I sold my Evo, so I settled with a non PP SHO.

I am very happy with it despite it is the first car I ever owned with an automatic transmission.  I wish the gears were spaced out evenly on the SHO.  There's a huge gap from 2nd to 3rd and the gears are really tall.  I can only use 89 octane gas for work since it is provided, so I got a tuner from Torrie with an 87, 89, and 92 octane tune.  I'm really happy with it along with the Airaid intake and my custom exhaust.  I really wanted to get the exhaust that everyone is getting for their SHO's, but I sort of ran out of funds so I settled with a custom dual 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust with Megan mufflers.

I wanted to know that if for some reason I could upgrade the turbos, I know I won't get the most benefit out of it, along with anything else, because I'm not able to run 92 octane gas.  But is it possible to get tuned to run bigger turbos on 89 octane?   Meth/water injection is not an option for me.  Anyhow, I'm glad to be here and hope to learn as much as possible from the forums.

Welcome to EBPF, ShoFan, great choice of ride :thumb: and nice color choice for your SHO!  We should all be so lucky as to write off a SHO as a business expense :)  The custom exhaust sounds good!  Downpipes will let you hear more of the turbos and add more low-end grunt.  Bigger turbos allow you to extract more power at the same psi or same power at lower psi.  Can be tuned for any octane (even race gas, once in a while ;) ).

Would definitely get a setup that allows you to monitor engine/transmission parameters (like Torque Pro on Android device + hispeed Bluetooth adapter, e.g.) so you can see if you are pushing it in any given category and and let the tuner make adjustments accordingly.
2007 Ford Edge SEL, Powerstop F/R Brake Kit, TXT LED 6000K Lo & Hi Beams, W16W LED Reverse Bulbs, 3BSpec 2.5w Map Lights, 5W Cree rear dome lights, 5W Cree cargo light, DTBL LED Taillights

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

Welcome, great looking SHO. Liking the sterling gray also. I'd be paying for my own gas just for the tunes, but free gas = priceless (well around $3.90/gal)...lol...good luck with the ride. Many knowledgeable people here willing to help.

i like how the exhaust cracks off i find the corsa/borla stainless works kinda of just make noise with the corsa being the best but this sounds really good to me.

Thank you all for the welcome and comments.  Downpipes are definitely in my future for this car.  I know those are what really make a huge difference in turbo cars.  Since I don't have to worry about emissions here in Honolulu, I would be looking at the non catted version.  I know it's totally useless and I'm one who is all about function over everything else, but one of the cool things I like about turbo cars is that with the right tuning, you can get some flames out the exhaust on deceleration or initially off throttle.  Not sure how that would be possible on an automatic with FBW throttle, but have any of you guys seen that on the SHO?   Again, I know it's useless for power or function, but that has always appealed to me in motorsports, and I just think it looks cool as hell lol.

SHOdded, do you think that tune for the larger turbos would be able to be done all through the Internet without Torrie or any other tuner being here to oversee it directly?  I know that's the best way, but do you think they could do that with datalogs or something?

Thanks again everyone!  I'll try to make some more interesting videos with my GoPro later.  Right now I'm just getting ready for possibly 2 hurricanes to hit the islands, so videos will have to wait, haha!

Yes, tuning can be done remotely, no problem.  Datalogging is important, and so is providing any audio/visual cues that you feel are important to know about.

Stay safe, guy!  Having seen firsthand what tornadoes can do, I hope noone gets within miles of a hurricane.
