Reliability of the SHO

Hello,

I'm looking into purchasing a 10-12 SHO.  I'm wondering the reliability of the car, mainly how many miles before things start needing repaired.  I'm looking to save a few grand and get a 10/11 with 55-75k miles.  Would you feel comfortable buying one with those kind of miles on it?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I think the weak link on these cars is the PTU. I bought mine with 32k miles but had the PTU flushed right away. With the look of the gear oil at 32k if a 55-75k SHO has never been touched you may be looking at an issue there. Only other item for me was the master cylinder, but seems to be a rare occurrence. My 2010 is a "job 1" car, but I have put almost 10k on her and I couldn't be happier. I believe that the SHO's have been pretty darn solid overall.

If you can get a CPO, that can give you some wiggle room.  Run the car through your usual checklist for a used car:  should drive well, be free of any leaks or drips (except water from A/C :) ), be up to date on PCM programming, etc.

If everything else checks out, the spark plugs are a good indicator of internal health.  Pull, check, and document.  If they have not been changed, go ahead and put in updated plugs.  Note any oil in the plug wells as an indicator of valve cover oil leak (rare, but good-to-know).

Peeling chrome taillights are a big cosmetic issue.  Check closely.

Chaffed knock sensor wires are sometimes an issue, and can cause loss of power.  Easy to fix with electrical tape.

If tuned:  Take note of the strategy code as you return to stock (including 3 bar MAP to 2 bar MAP) -> take car in & get it serviced -> check strategy code when you get car back -> have tuner update your tune if the strategy code has changed -> reload tune -> ENJOY!

I bought my 2010 CPO with 46k last feb and immediately started playing with it. Just hit 81k. Haven't had any issues besides the trans TSB

Bought my '10 in 2011 with 18K. Had peeling chrome tail light issues and tranny TSB done under remaining factory warrantee. I'm at 52K now and she has been as dependable as could be and without a doubt the best car I've ever owned. I had a vacuum hose leak repaired out of pocket ( nickel-dime stuff) and recently found an O ring that had been damaged at some point (probably during manufacture) and was easily replaced without a dealer visit. New tires and plugs at 50K just cause I felt like it!

Mine has been very reliable.  Bought an 11 with 35K on it last year and immediately took it in for peeling tail lights, and the vinyl on the side of the seat was cracked and replaced under the bumper to bumper warranty.

Had the Trans TSB done under warranty, but other than that the car has been perfect.  I have also had many vehicles and this one is definitely one of the best for comfort, luxury features, and it seems to be built pretty well too.

I am up to 62,000 miles now and all is well!

I bought my '10 with 45k on it, I'm at 61k, trouble-free.

My 2013 has been in the shop 1x for a bad keyless entry pad on the door sill.

28,xxx miles and couldn't be happier.

My 2 previous cars, an audi and volvo both averaged 1 shop visit a quarter over 6 years and 100,xxx miles.

I had the initial TSBs performed and I only see the dealer twice per year for an oil change. Beyond oil changes and tires rotations, and a yearly cabin filter, I have only had to purchase a set of tires.  Today I had to replace a brake light bulb, $4.
Needless to say, the maintenance cost of the car is very low.
I'm very happy with the car in comparison to any other Subaru, Nissan, Chrysler I have ever owned.
