Ok...just to be clear; talking about the '14 XSport here, but I imagine they're all the same, or at least very similar.
I was re-routing my Rx clean-side separator line this afternoon and got to looking. I still have a stock air box, and haven't pulled the trigger on an intake yet. (I think I'm waiting for a better, more CAI option)
Any reason why I should leave the saxophone piece intact? It looks like the air is fed from the air between the engine bay and grill. Would removing it and leaving an opening for the "dirty" side on the air filter free up some restrictions?
I'll have a better idea what I'm talking about this weekend when I take the front clip off for Rx re-routing.
ALSO, in cleaning out my garage this weekend, I found a K&N drop-in filter that I had bought for my Mazda6.
Not sure what compelled me to hold it up to my XSport filter, but I'll be damned if they aren't the same size. Outer dimension is identical, along with the size of the filter itself.
The only difference is, the K&N filter has a rubber lip around the top edge that the XSport stocker didn't have. So, I cut that off with scissors and a razor, and it drops right in.
My question is: Any reason I shouldn't run this in the XSport?
